Hand and Thumb warmers are well worth the cost if you are going to be doing any cold weather riding....And a good quality winch.....

Ditto this with the addition of a windshield for the late fall/winter months.

And a box on the back to store all this stuff. Also, aftermarket tires are not a must.

They've both been said but a thumb-warmer and winch will keep your but in the seat longer each day than without em.

If you are going to use a Kolpin gun boot,be sure to stuff the barrel channel with material so that the weight of the gun rests on the barrel instead of the scope. These gun boots have a terrible design flaw that results in the scope supporting the weight of the gun unless you do this,or unless the rifle has at least a 30" barrel.I have seen two scopes damaged, and several others knocked off of zero for this reason.

Being relatively new to this game, I decided a basic survival kit might not be a bad idea.

I would get a 3000 pound Warn winch.Don't get one with synthetic rope as they are garbage,go with wire.Stainless steel skidplate.Hand and thumbwarmers and windshield is nice if you are doing lots of late season quading.Good quad box and some type of Jerrycan are a must.Depending on what type of quading you are doing will determine whether you want after market tires.I feel if you go really big then all you are doing is burning more gas, roughing up your ride, robbing your power and throwing a shat load of mud..I put ITP 589s on my honda but the same size as factory and I really like them. The ITP Mud lites are also very popular.A good axe in the box and your gear and you are ready to go.

I also like to have a 180 net velvet mulie on mine but can't seem to get it done.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

x2 on the first aid kit, I have one in my quad, and its been used.
Fender extenders are a must
Tow strap.
basic survival kit ( Matches, Emerg. blanket, snack bars ect. )
tire repair kit, I also keep a bicycle pump in my box
Good winch.
Small jerry can, with spare gas.

It may seem like alot, but ya never know whats gonna happen.

I've used these for the past couple years with handwarmers. On the coldest day I can still ride bare handed - definitley helps when you gotta grab the gun in a hurry...

Flats suck. Running out of gas sucks. Break downs suck. Be ready for any/all of these situations.

Also, I always have a chainsaw strapped onto the back and have used it often. Early season in Burnt Timber of Fallen Timber can be a challange.

The other thing I never leave home without (quadding or otherwise) is a small bag of parachute cord. It's a vital little package very often. I bought mine at a military surplus store years ago. Good thing to have.

Consider getting some goggles - good if you're traveling dusty roads on your ATV and if you wear prescription glasses - Oakley's L-Frame goggles allow you to wear them without getting fogged up.

can or 2 of tire seal-all. never know when you're gonna need it and it will hold up for at least enough time for you to get close to civilization.

StinkyCoyote,
A good front bumper(back too) goes a long way in protecting your investment. I'm not sure about your KQ, but my 700 didn't really have much. Suzuki makes a awesome oem aftermarket bumper that will take down sizeable trees should they get in the way, also gives a good spot for lifting if required, very heavy duty. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

With our KQ 700 we put Kimpex bumpers on and they look so good. We also put Kimpex fender guards and foot rests.

ooooh, good ones!, looked all of them up and now on the list...as with most of the other accessories too...i can see the quad might end up being the cheap part of this whole deal (how do i conveniently forget these things eh?)

okay, i'm getting it with the warn 2500 lb winch w/roller lead...

thinking about the itp mudlite tires in the xl tread depth (1 1/8") or would the newer XTR radial model be a better tire??? and yeah, i'm thinking the factory 25" will be big enough...but it might not be hard to convince me to go with 26"? or would that be a waste on the 450? what about chains? are they a common thing to use and would that affect tire size choice? I'm not going out of my way to sink this thing in mudholes...want to hunt/scout and come home...

liking the factory suzuki front/rear bumpers so far

liking the kimpex rear fender guard w/footpegs

liking the hand boot things

liking grip/thumb heaters

loving all the winch/survival/tools type stuff....i'm all about being the last boyscout out there when it comes to being prepared for everything!

liking the stainless skid plate idea....gotta research that one out

i have still have my fullface helmet from the superbike days (shoei x9 i think?) will that do....otherwise whats most practical type of helmets i should look at?

so thats where i'm at so far folks....

The only "must have" accessory I see most guys out at Maclean with is a cooler (full of beer) strapped precariously to the rear rack...
