Default Wet tumbling brass

For those of you that wet tumble your brass with SS pins, how do you dry the pins after your done? Small little buggers sure are a pain to deal without getting them all over the place.

On a positive note (first time doing it) holy crap they came out nice and shiny!

Share your experience or secrets if you wish, I appreciate anything you offer.

I dump the contents into a 5gal pail with the screen in to keep the brass in the drum.

Then I wash the brass in clean water over the pail to catch any remaining pins.

Once clean, I put the brass in a tray and they go into the oven at 150f for 2 hours to dry.

Once dry I dump the pins that are left back into the pail and then pour all the water out and leave the pins in the pail.

I don’t have the best setup but it works.

I let mine dry in a large pan. It takes a day or so, but they do dry.

No rush here. If I need to use them again before they’re dry, it doesn’t matter. I do clean them after they leave the tumbler.

I just leave mine in the mesh tray, suspend it in air, and it’s dry throughout in less than 24 hours.

Default Wet tumbling

I put mine into a food dehydrator for about an hour. They come out nice and dry.

Oh I don’t. I leave them in the bucket wet and they air dry. Thought we were talking brass.

I’ve never bother drying the pins either, just leave the lid on the tumbler cracked when it’s in storage.

Fair enough. Just seemed wrong to me to leave the pins wet as well.

Pop the top off tumbler, dump out most of the water in the sink, flush container for 2-3 minutes to purge out soap, make sure to stir the contents a few times. Then dump into fancy spinning thing that came with tumbler, spin, pull out brass and put in dehydrated / brass dryer, drain most of the water out of the bottom of the spinner container, let dry overnight, dump dry pins into tumbler, repeat.

PS: Don't use your wife's favourite mini-vacuum to pick the pins up when you spill them on the floor unless you want to buy a new one!

You guys do know they make a magnet for picking up all those pins, right?

Ya....the magnet I thought I wouldn’t need I’m now going to buy haha. Those little pins would be a lot easier to handle with the magnet.

Seriously though, thanks for the help guys. The whole thing is new to me so I’ll take whatever advice or experience you offer.
