6.5 RPM Cartridge
I was picking up supplies today, and a fellow had three boxes of 6.5RPM factory loads on the counter, for a total of over $300. I am wondering why a person would choose the 6.5 RPM over the 6.5 PRC, given that the ballistics are so similar, especially given the difference in ammunition cost.

Rpm will mop the floor with a prc if you were hand loading them
It’s a 6.5x284 that’s been lengthened to fit In a 30/06 length action
I looked at one the other day in a backcountry ti
They look like a combo that will be tough to beat

What was the price? I'd love one in the 6.5x300. Be hell on deer, antelope, and of course sheep, but think it's a pound heavier than the RPM.

The only load data that I can find, isn't much faster than what I am getting with the PRC, and I am not running all that hot.

I can run my 6.5x284 to almost the exact same velocities and the rpm is a lot longer

I think it was $4200
Don’t quote me on that
It was light.... very light
I don’t think you would be losing that much going with reloaded 6.5 rpm rounds
I’d bet you would be able to hit 3200 fps plus with 140 gr bullets

So what manufacturers data do you have that shows a huge advantage over the PRC?

You may squeeze an extra 50 FPS out of the RPM with the same bullet weight, the RMP is a long action cartridge available only in the Weatherby mark V platform, Weatherby is the only ones so far offering ammunition hence the reason it's $100 a box instead of $65 and no load data has yet to be made public that I know of and no unprimed brass, all the above is the very reason that I went with the 6.5 PRC this spring.
I guess time will tell if the RPM will mop the floor with the PCR, but then who knows. If you want a long action fast 6.5 why stop at the RPM go big or stay home and get the 26 nosler or the 6.5 - 300 Weatherby.
Anyway just humble opinion for what it's worth.

I think it will fit in the middle
Roughly 3100-3200 fps velocities with higher bc bullets
I could push 156gr bergers over 3000 fps with my 6.5x284 and n570
There’s a lot more case capacity in the rpm
If you have a standard bolt face long action and wanted to rebarrel your rifle this would be a new option

Personally
I think Weatherby has made a lot of changes and improvements in the last few years
They are listening to what people want and are trying to deliver

Weatherby themselves have released load data on their site, but that is the only data that I can find, and it's pretty comparable to the 6.5PRC data that I have.

I’ve had good luck with h1000 and retumbo
N570 was the fastest
Was getting over 3000 fps with retumbo and n570 with 156gr bergers
Settled on h1000 at 2911 fps
Very consistent and repeatable with a 26” barrel
H1000 worked well with 140 bergers 140gr aframes and 156gr eol
Retumbo was faster and accurate as well, it was just harder to find any of it

Marky Mark I thought N570 would be good in the 6.5x284. I just picked up a Savage FTR with a 32 inch barrel. According to Quick Load with that long of barrel 140grn bullets should do over 3200fps. That is getting it close to the 26 Nosler. Of coarse this rifle is np sheep hunting rig at around 14 pounds. I just can't wait to try it out.
