Your shooting up to 300 yards or more you say, 270 or 7mm all day. You have speed, flat shooting, but most importantly power.

270 .has a little more gas in the tank than the 6.5 for the big stuff.7 mm probably not necessary if you plan on staying under 300 yds for game imo

Definitely 270 can buy shells anywhere and will kill all three of those up to 300 yards quite easily

The 270 is the best of those three for sure.

270 will do all you need, ammo can be found even in radon gas stations, and I just like the caliber honestly

7mm would be good too and if you hunt elk more then deer this would be my choice

6.5 if you want to get in touch with your feminine side

7RM it will function in all conditions. You won't have to worry about knock down power on a marginal shot on larger critters. We all hope for the one and done. But it doesn't always happen that way. The 7mm has the best chance of performing.

For hunting deer, elk and moose 7mm Rem Mag. All can be taken with factory Rem 140 gr Core-Lockt bullet.

All would work well enough but if I could only choose one, it would be the 7mm.

I've used 270 and 7RM, didn't notice much difference in recoil. Prefer the 7mm just because of wider range of bullet choices. The 6.5 well, is just for plinkin, lol.

7mm rem mag is my vote.

I use one, and it has more than enough power for any big game animal. Lots of power down range too.

270 is good too, and will work without a doubt. Very good gun, and considering the fact is uses less powder than the 7mm to produce slightly less velocity makes it great if you are hand loading.

6.5 is the most fun, and it’s popularity highlights that. Amazing long range accuracy. The downside is the lack of energy down range for hunting purposes.

X2

And as a friend of mine, who builds some of the finest rifles for globe trotting hunters, said to me a couple of days ago. The 175 gr Partition at 2900 FPS turns it into a manageable 300 magnum.

I own all 3 and my ranking for Ab hunting would be : 1) Rem 7 mag, 2) 270 Win ...., 3) 6.5 CM. If I were buying another 6.5 the CM would be down the list in the 3-4 spot. Didn't sound as though you're going to be punching paper at longer yardage so much and that's about the only area where the CM has anything over the other two.

From small to large game in Ab I dont think there's a better all round cartridge than the 7mm Rem mag. 300WM as well but its not as easy to shoot as the 7.

Buy a CM as your go to and you'll likely want a bigger cartridge in the not so distant future. Imo it's a good cartridge to have in a multiple rifle collection. NOT as a go to.

My vote is for the 7mm rem mag.... I know you didn’t want any suggested cartridges but best of both worlds, 270 wsm?

7mm, if it has to be only one of those. Might as well take the the extra power for elk and moose. As has been mentioned recoil is very manageable with a good pad, have never found it an issue at all. I'd just as well shoot that then my 25-06 without a pad for comparison.

All would do the job at the end of the day with the right bullet.

Bit of a plug for the 7mm and a pretty decent deal. Bashaw has a new Win model 70 sporter in that cartridge for 889. Nice rifle. Nice cartridge. Nice price

I've never owned or shot the 6.5 CM
Out of the other two, I really didn't like the 270, mainly the rifle rather than the cartridge.
Loved the 7mmRm, used a Browning A bolt in 7mmRm for 17 years as my main rifle. I gave it to my nephew about 5 years ago and he is still using it.

7 RM has good bullet selection, probably a bit better than the 6.5, and selection is perhaps (?) a bit limited for .277 bullets.

I like the 7 RM for power, it's very flat shooting, really one of the great, near legendary cartridges. Easy to source components for it, relatively mild recoil, a bit more than the .270, and more like a 30-06 with 180 gr. or 200 gr. IIRC. Maybe a hair more, I don't recall.

For me it would be an easy choice for big animals and the 7 mag. You don't NEED it, and you can sure hunt with smaller, but a little extra HP is nice.

2nd choice would be the .270, which is a great cartridge too, and somewhat maligned for it's "oddball" .277 bullets which historically didn't quite have the same BC bullets available for .264 diameter. I don't think that's as big a concern now. But it does fall behind the 7 RM a bit for punch.

Real world, it probably doesn't matter much, big animals fall to small cartridges like the .243 all the time, but that is my opinion.
