Default Seating depth question

Once you fellas have found the best seating depth for a particular bullet and powder combination, does that depth stay consistent with that same bullet when trying other powders?

It becomes the last thing I tweak, if at all, for any subsequent bullets. BTO measurement being my point of reference.

Most of the time I don't bother changing it. To put it in perspective I'm not chasing 1/4" groups. 3/4" groups seem to come together nicely with the same BTO measurement.

I tried that once. Was a hassle and I didn’t see spectacular results for my purposes. The 1/2” group I got before changing seating depth was more than adequate for the hunting I do.

I find that it may change slightly, but not by a lot.

I have a 243 that I was loading older hornady 87 gr SP and had a decent load worked up.
Changed to a 95 gr nosler ballistic tip and had to change powder type and seating depth to get the nosler to group. Was getting 1” groups at best with previous powder, and now back to touching again. Was getting nice tight 1/2” groups with the 87 gr bullets. I was amazed at the work I had to do to get the noslers to group, and thought I was loosing my mind.
Had close to the same with 6.5 PRC and 121gr hammers and the 156 gr eol bullets. Different powder and seating depths.

Eric Cortina has a couple good videos on the subject. Unless your burning up a barrel or two per year I don't think many would notice the difference.

With the same bullet. Nope. Seating depth can stay the same.

Different powder does require working up the new load anyway so any difference in pressures that might occurs are compensated for that way.

I choose seating depth for feed and accuracy. Those are not improved on by changing seating depth if you have it as close as you can get already, with that bullet.
