Default Savage model 24

What is a Savage model 24 22LR/410 worth? It is stamped 27A on the left-hand side of the barrel near the breach. The research that I have done is the A means it is a 1949 ( B would be a 1950 ............)as this was the first year not being a Savage/Stevens. Not pristine on the wood finish (butt stock) but pretty dam good for the age. Barrels look real good and it shoots great. Williams peep sight and not an add on.

They seem to want good money for them, I have had one for over 45 years, it is my grouse gun, not sure what they are worth, but prices are silly on them.

Default depends

If you have the model with the barrel selector on the left side of the receiver, savage actually regulated the barrels to hit in the same place unlike recent models.During WW2 they were issued to airmen with Tenite stocks /prone to cracking.Anywhere from $400-$600 IMO pics would help.Don't believe they were factory D+T for receiver sights but I could be wrong?

Pretty much any 22/410 version in average shape is worth at least 700 bucks. In good shape 800, VG 900 and Excellent 1000-1200 depending on exact model. The 22/20 gauges go for more money as do the 30-30/20 gauge and the other less common versions. A new Baikal 22/20 gauge is $800 for comparison. I have sold 4 model 24s in the past 3 years, none lasted more than a day or two before they went.

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion that the prices are out of line but I am willing to bet you would have no trouble accepting those prices if you sold. Since those are in fact the current prices and anything in the 500 or less range is going to be a real beater these days, the decision is do I buy a used Savage or a new Baikal or the Savage 42, new $700 and in my opinion not near the gun the 24 is, or similar combo guns. I try not to pass opinions on what guns SHOULD be worth, I just work off of what they sell for and is that a price I am prepared to pay for that particular gun. I can also tell you that I have never sold a gun for less than I paid for it, even the ones I bought new, so it gives you a pretty good idea off how fast they are going up in price. Who would have ever thought Marlin 39s would be selling for $1500 in Good to VG condition but the last one I sold at that price went in 20 minutes.
