Default Handi Rifle Thoughts?

So, I've got two .45-70's already.

(I should change my name)

I'm thinking of picking up a Handi Rifle in the same caliber and scoping it.

Anyone ever own one?

Thoughts?

What's the weight, pounding, etc like from them?

Accuracy?

I don't own one but have handled a few. Knowing the weight of the gun and the recoil potential of the 45-70, I would guess that combo is gonna leave a mark.

Accuracy wise, that would depend largely on how scared one is to pull the trigger.

Use and absolutely love it. I load 45-70 hot for 300gr and 200yrd is not a limit

200yrds target:

Beware getting scope with generous eye relief - I use Nikon Slugunter.

I had one in 45-70, I pushed it past Marlin loads, accurate and it lets you know you're shooting a big bore rifle.
My NEF 45-70 had a 3x9 Nikko Sterling scope on it, I tried to shoot loads that would test out how tough that scope was. It never did fail even after lots of heavy loads.
I prefer the NEF, Handi Rifles that shoot rimmed cases, I have had 308's and 243's where the case failed to extract due to "warmer" loads.
My favorites are 30-30, 45-70 in the NEF, Handi platform.

I own several handi rifles. The 45-70 was the only one I ever sold. It was impossible to shoot without it jumping out of your hands. Felt recoil was far worse than my .375 H&H. Just to much cartridge for such light platform. I would avoid it like the plague.

Yes recoil tolerance happen to be very individual thing. Mine is worst is shooting from bench, I don't feel any in hunting conditions.
