mechanicals almost screwed me once, never again, although when they function properly they can leave a mean hole.

I use a Razorback fixed but they rotate on the shaft, no loss of kinetic energy as they enter target, no need to tune, the arrow is allowed to spin freely, and blades don't control front end flight, cut on contact with bleeder blades, I have used them for over 20 years always quick clean kills, made by NAP

Where's the Wasp Jak Hammers...very similar in design to the reaper...but built a little tougher. That's my plug for Stinky.

I've had great luck with Montecs, and so have the other guys I hunt with. Very tough and easy to make them scary sharp, fly like fieldpoints, and I have never noticed noise from them in flight.

What you say is true, I should have payed more attention to the beginning of your post.
However I am suprised you have never heard of any of the heads I mentioned. I mean Zwickey has been producing heads for 60+ years, and their Eskimo head is the longest running, continually produced broadhead on the market. And at the very least I would have thought you had heard of the Muzzy Phantom line of broadheads. Fred Eichler used them for the majority of his Super Slam, and they are advertised in most bowhunting mags.
Anyhow I am sorry that my reply did not follow the original topic thought of your original post.

Default 125gr Slick Tricks

yeah, it seems more an more uncommon but...

I have a shorter draw length (27.5") and with my QAD drop away rest I have my arrows cut down to 26.5" - they're pretty short. The arrow manufacturer told me that I should use a 125gr tip to overcome the increased spine associated with a shorter arrow. I shot 100gr slick tricks last year with the same setup and they seemed to fly pretty well. I thought I'd try 125gr field tips for the last month or so and haven't noticed much difference in arrow flight or accuracy.

I'm wondering if I even need to make the switch?...

I think I may have solved my own dilema...

if it ain't broke - don't fix it!

God I'm feeling old with all these hi-tec mechanical solid heads. Still using Bear broadheads that I bought in the 70"s. Got a great deal on a few dozen, solid heads vented for nice flight.

All arrows whistle a little bit. Go stand down range at 40 and have some one shoot (before anyone from the safety police has a snit-I'm making the assumption most people would stand behind something).

A fixed blade with a decent cutting diameter will make a little more of a whoosh than a field point. The old Rothar Snuffers absolutely howled.

I'm not sure it really makes a difference. Its like bow noise. A bowhunter can do a lot to soften the string sound, but they are kidding themselves if they think the animal won't hear it.

I like Montec's....make that love Montec's. Same point of impact as my field points and resharpen-able. I have also had good luck with Muzzy 3 blade and MX-4's. Hate mechanicals. Spitfires soured me and I haven't had any use for a mechanical since (played with them but will not use them on game).

I get tighter groups with 125 grain out of my bow so that's what I shoot.

Lot's of guys shoot 125's. All depends on your arrow. Far from obsolete. The difference between 100 and 125 is only 25. Just thought I would point out the obvious... maybe slow you down 7-10 fps. Accuracy trumps speed.
