Default Junior Trapper

I heard in the past that a trapper with a registered line can, "apprentice" a junior trapper. Any truth to that? If so, could someone give me the rundown on how this works...

I couldn't find anything on the Alberta Trappers Association website, no answer when I call either.

Yes Steve, What you say is pretty much why it was set up with a senior holder and a position for a junior as well. Firstly, you will have to take the trapper ed. course, unless you have the experience to "challenge" the test and I'm not positive if one can still do that. You could check with the F&W and confirm that. That being done, you will now have to find a senior holder, willing to take on a junior. If this person is not one that you know, then ask around for someone needing a younger body to assist him in the maintenance of his line. In addition to these chores, you may even get to set some traps . In a lot of cases, aat some point in time an understanding is reached regarding the transfer of the line, when the time comes for the present senior to step down and spend some of that accumulated fur money . Basically that's what it is about. If you have other questions, PM me and I'll call you back and help if I can... Good luck
