Two cases of illegal and dangerous hunting near St. Isidore have earned a guide $15,000 in fines. Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement says Robert Brown plead guilty to two counts under the Wildfire Act in Peace River on September 20th.
Brown was working for Bearpaw Outfitting on October 28, 2015 when he slowed his vehicle to shoot out of the driver-side window at a coyote on Highway 986. The bullet went across the oncoming lane of traffic and into a farmer’s field without permission.
Just a few days later on November 1, 2015, Brown let an American client shoot a coyote, even though they did not have a licence to hunt coyotes in Alberta. The animal wasn’t injured, and Brown had the outfitter issue his client a licence afterwards. The outfitter has since passed away.
Brown plead guilty to hunting in a dangerous manner and hunting without a licence and has been given until July 2019 to pay $10,000 in fines. If he doesn’t pay on time, he’ll be given six months in jail for each count. Brown has also been ordered to pay $5,000 to the Northern Sunrise Rural Crime Watch Association and has been suspended from holding a recreational hunting licence for three years.
