My money is on Jason Kenney. He has the experience and background and he looks Prime Ministerial.

I agree, he is the best bet.

I like Kenny but think the party will lean toward a 'progressive' from the east.

Agree. I'm pretty sure the party establishment isn't going to turn to another Albertan former-Reform party member (Sorry Jason). I'd put money on an easterner. Maybe they try to lure Baird or even McKay. McKay has a bit of a cool factor that eastern media values and could be a good opponent for Trudeau. I just am not sure if he wants to sit in opposition for 4 years before he gets the chance. He just left office.

Michelle Rempel.

Seriously, I know she is from Calgary, but WTF, we have had a bunch of PM's from Montreal.

She did well in her first term, and sure would attract younger voters. And prettier than Justin. Not that it should matter, but apparently it does.

What concerns me is the progressive red Tories are going to make a power grab and it will divide the CPC for years.

Smile Hold on a bit

This will be a 2 stage process. They need a "house leader" who already has a seat. The guys who hope to be the next leader don't want that job BUT they don't want some one who might run against them for the leader of the party.

So they need some one a bit better than Rick McIver but you get the idea.

The next leader may not have a seat, not a big deal if they wait a while, some one can fall on his sword and there will be a by election in a "safe" riding for him to win a seat.

Who ever is in that seat now has spent a lot of time and money winning the seat and won't want to give it up. Since they are not the government they can't give the MP a senate seat or an ambassadorship. Have to wait until he is eligible for a pension. There a a few already.

So who would be the best long term best leader?

Peter for sure.

I think strategically and historically Libs and conservs take turns at the helm. You want to distance the new leader from the old.

So Peter doesn't run. Takes a break. Comes back as a fresh face. Brings the east coast vote with him.

Maybe we can convince Sacha Trudeau to run for the CPC. There seems to be a big desire to start a Trudeau dynasty for some reason. Why not benefit from it.

Don't like Kenny from his immy minister days. Stockwell day would be my choice, unfortunately he's not around. Peter McKay all the way.
