I was actually curious about this river too, it seems extremely narrow and shallow but claims good fish types in the regs. Does anyone fish that river?

Weird!!!

I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in 18 years,, she spent the winter doing ice fishing tournaments (What the How???!!!),, anyhoo, she inherited some land on the Battle and offered her land for fishing and says the Walleye and Goldeye fishing slams (in a good way). However, I have a feeling that I'll be tilling soil for the privelage of fishing.

chubbdarter, what part of the Battle River were you thinking about?
The Battle River streches over 800kms through Alberta.
From what I understand, There are suckers, walleye, pike, mooneye, goldeye in the river. Mooneye, and goldeye are only found downstream of the Forsburg Dam.

thats not battle river. you fished either the notikiwan, hotchkiss, or the meikle. as the legend goes, notikiwan is the first battle, hotchkiss is the second, meikle is the third battle.

I fish the battle river lots of pike! and a ton of em average form 3-5lbs with the odd 8lber. i use redhead rattle snakes on mono for one reason...my reflexs it allows you the extra second of slack and that will be the dission weather you land it or not. 85% of the strikes youll get will be very hard, and the pike will 9/10 in slow rivers smack the lure on its side and drag it upstream/downstream. the name of the game on those river is to cover as much water as possible casting every 10-15 feet bcause these pike will charge about 15 feet to a crank your bait. i know this because i know where every pikes home is on the blindman and i studied them on what they want how they attack and how fats it takes them. majority of the pike will be right tight on shore!

I know a lot of spots down by hardisty pulled a few 10lb walleyes out of there every year if you need someone to show you around i could for sure. It's probably the best river in alberta that nobody knows about which is good.

watch it!

And just as a side note, Saskatchewan stocked splake in their section of the battle river in 1989...maybe they spawned and you can catch some of the offspring upstream ...Also people catch the odd rainbow early spring in the sask section of the battle...

It's 10 miles from my house. They say it is deep enough in places you would never find the body

I have fished various sections of the Battle. The furthest west I fished it was south of Camrose. Only caught pike there. Biggest about 4lbs. Spent more time at the highway bridge north of Brownfield. Only caught pike there as well. Hardisty bridge, skunked, Highway 14 bridge skunked. even fished it on the Sask side one year ( Spent most of my time in Sask anyways), got skunked plus broke a rod. Some big fish come out of Forestburg Dam. Big Knife Prov. Park on the west side of the dam is a great place to stay too.

Default Battle River

Socal, I live close to the Battle River, and fish it quite a bit. If you're ever interested in getting together and sharing a few spots that are good, I'd be up for that. I've caught a ton of walleye in there, but not a lot of pike. I get a few nice goldeye every year too. Most of the fishing I do is in the Hardisty area.
