Default primers

I was under the impression ,that Win primers were the hottest. The Fed mag primers were invented for the WBY mags to prevent nasty hangfires.Have read the Fed mag primers can be soft and flow when things get hot so some switch to the harder CCI.Harold

Federal primers are a little softer, but if you have the primer flowing around the firing pin, then either the firing pin/bolt face clearance is excessive, or the chamber pressure is way beyond what it should be.

Cratered primers are so common in factory rifles that there better be other signs of pressure present before blaming that.

Default primers

The CCI primers with the same loads looked fine but the Feds looked like melted ice.......not a MAX load just different primers........Harold

Was at range today. Tried to wring some more outta rel 22. 150 lrab. No good groups around 2.5 inches at 70gr. 3050fps. Tried h1000...nothing better. Tried imr4350 1.5 in group but 2950fps. Tried rel17 2in group at 3150fps. Seems my Tikka likes faster powders. Will probably play with seating on rel 17 load. All groups at 200 yds.

Loved the 4350 group but I took my 7mm08 out and it consistently shot 2 inch groups at 2900 and I gave it to my daughter. Bought the mag for some more oomph. Almost there. Also appears that like Dick 284 says my 7mag is about 200 to 250 fps lower than book velocities. No pressure signs.

If IMR4350 is producing the best accuracy, work the load up a bit and see what happens. You should easily be able to reach 3050-3100fps with no pressure signs with IMR4350.
