Default Antelope country

I've been working down in south east corner of province and recall why one wants a flat shooting rifle for antelope

240 wby , 257 why , 243 6mm 25-06,270 come to mind

Hmmm
I have become recoil sensitive so maybe 240 wby or 6mm -284

If you are recoil sensitive an want good flat shooting gun then the 7-08 or 280 AI would be your huckleberry.

243 win with an 85gr TTSX. Great for deer/antelope.

I've had both 7-08 and 280 AI

The 7-08 is an over achiever !

I still like the smaller cartridges . I have a soft spot for the 240 wby.

I have 2 Douglas 6 mm barrels and 2Douglas 257 cal barrels

Default antelope gun

Only thing is it takes 11 years to get a buck tag and 8 to get a doe.I guess one could shoot paper ,coyotes and deer in between antelope hunts. We got 3 doe tags finally this year..........Harold

If that is what you have on hand then a 257 Weatherby or 240 Weatherby seems like to easy answer to the question.

Yes ballistics are close. 7-08 short action . Factory ammo is loaded to higher pressure in 7-08 due to known modern rifles as apposed to older military 7x 57

Dug out a H&R 340 to be the donor action for a 240 wby

I'd go with a 243, or 260 if you would be thinking of deer too

If you want a full on custom go 6.5x47L enough said.
Lol in all honesty I just finished breaking mine in and it looks promising.
Havnt decided whether ill run 130gr Berger VLD (H) or 129gr LRAB's yet, but both are looking really good so far.
