Snare construct, first attempt

Trying to put together my first set of snares.
Got the bits and parts from Halfords today.
More so trying to duplicate the snares I bought from Ken.
5/64 with 385 breakaways, #5 locks.
My loops are not holding tho, they fall to about 6" diameter.
I bought 5/64 - 7/7, because they were out of 19 strand.
Doesn't seem to be enough stiffness in the 7/7 at 12" loop diameter to hold the lock.
Did I waste my money on the 7/7 cable Q

Do you mean your loops are a "teardrop" shape? Not many guys use 7x7.

I don't use 7x7 for the reason it won't hold a loop.

7x7 is for extensions. Works great for them. I use 3/32 for extentions, so your 5/64 would be fine.

I'll wait til Halford gets in some 19 strand, and re fit them, built 15 tonight.
Only about a $10 mistake, so far.

You could load your snare then it should hold a loop i have a few 7x7 out loaded not teardrop

What do you guys use for Lynx? Right now I am using 7x7 1/16 with cams

That's fine. I use the same with cam locks or micro locks which do not freeze up in moist conditions.

That is what we are using. Making the snares like Rich off of Trappers Inc.

Y tube it and he shows how he makes his lynx snares.

I even made some coyote snares that way out of the 7X7 5/64 cable. So far one coyote with the test batch and very happy with the results. Using Marty's locks and killer springs on the coyote snares.

There ya go Tbark, have a look on YouTube and loading your snares might solve the problem. I never used 7x7 but I load my 1x19 ones or they are tear dropped as well. I bought the last 3 rolls of 100 foot 5/64" cable on Monday.....maybe I should have posted that Halfords was out.

Not to cause a big controversy but.....I know that Halfords only has 265# and 385# BAD's. I found that a 280# BAD was a better fit for where I'm snaring. Just something to consider.

I kill wolf with 7x7 just as well as 1x19.
Don't matter if the loop is round or teardrop,lol.

Either cable is ok but 1X19 holds a better round round loop when loaded than 7X7 and a loaded loop closes much faster and efficiently than an unloaded tear drop shape snare

Correct.

I tried Aircraft cable, that's what we call 7x7 in any size. I didn't like it at all.
It was like trying to make a loop with cooked spaghetti.

I tried some 5/64" 7x7 with Lightning Locks and magnums last year... I hated it!

But I did like the 5/64" 1x19 with the same hardware and liked it immensely.
