Default Aftermarket Choke for Beretta A400

Thinking of buying an aftermarket Choke tube for my Beretta A400 for waterfowl hunting.

Patternmaster code black or Carlson's Cremator Ported seem to be the only available for the Optima HP thread pattern.

Thoughts and opinions?

Use a black cloud choke tube... very happy with even using a shell like score...

I use Carlson long range choke with Beretta 390 and patterns most of the goose loads very well. Patternmaster code black patterns well but not as uniform as Carlson. The Carlson Beretta Optima HP chokes have shot size limit to max of #2 so it is no good to me. I did not try Patternmaster Optima HP so I can't comment on them. Chokes that I tried were all modified with steel shot.

The Patternmaster Code Black produces nice patterns at 50 yards with 3", Fasteel, but do not shoot birds in the chest at close range.

All those chokes are great, particularly for a shotgun that is bound to end up on the FRT as prohib....speaking as somebody who may have one.

I may have liked the Carlson.

My line of thought, is that the only good way to develop confidence in a choke is to go pattern it with different brands of shotshells in different sizes of shot, and then try it again, with different lots of them. It will show if your existing choke is doing what it is supposed to, or if it is all really just about the way you shoot. Crio chokes are pretty good chokes in their own right, it may surprise you if you haven't patterned what you have already. I tried 3 different brands of chokes in my SBE2, two different restrictions, couldn't improve upon existing, by enough to justify the price of the chokes I tried out.

Unless you are trying to shoot ducks that are speeding by at close range, I remember some entertaining experiences last fall.

The biggest reason I like the aftermarket chokes is because all the ones I replaced were flush chokes and the Trulocks were all extended, easier too take them out!
They do seem too be made of a stronger alloy however.

If you hit them at that distance, there would have been nothing left.

Never really felt the need to change chokes in the field, may have done it in camp a couple of times. But, that is also the advantage of having two barrels and two different chokes in them, in the field.

I can't change the chokes on the vast majority of my shotguns, but the ones I do have screw ins on, I never change, I just take them out to clean them.
and yes,Two barrel is better than one IMO!
that being said, my favorite gun( you've seen it ) has identical chokes- Cyl/Cyl!!
