Default Drawn in 349 for moose

I'm going to try my luck in 349 again, hunted there in 2008 with no luck, fog was to thick all week and only saw 3 cows, mainly concentratrated on the west side of highway 32 near blue ridge rd. Anyone have any pointers in that zone so I don't get skunked again?

If your draw is open in the calling season or tail end of it I would sudjest getting up on the hills and try some calling. If not just spend some time hitting the lease roads. We see bulls around there every year and various sizes of them.

Never hunted for moose in 349, but lots of deer.
Even called in a moose to about 30 yards but no tag.
Try the lease roads and there's lots of cut blocks there now. If you can call and can sit still for a while try that. But driving around I see bulls every time I'm there

I was a priority 3. I was drawn for the late season, I plan on heading up there during the whitetail rut, hopefully the moose are on the move!

Hunted that zone for years! You may be against road hunting but I think a good bet is driving the lease roads. At least that is what I'd be doing if I had that tag and filling it was my priority. If deer was the priority I would get back in the bush and find some sign. Good luck!!

Happens more often than you think! A number of years ago I was archery hunting elk in 348 and a guy rolls up in a quad with a rifle on the front asking if we're seeing anything. Me and buddy laugh, and ask him if he knows the rifle season doesnt start till November. He gets flustered, apologiizing profusely saying he thought he was in 349! No harm, no foul we tell him, go on the other side of th highway!
