Looking to rent an Iridium 9505 sat phone
Hey,
I'm interested if any AO member out there may have an Iridium 9505 they would be willing to privately rent from July 20th till Sept 1st. I've got 2 long sheep hunts in the NWT and BC coming up with about a week's break in between. I already have a phone rented from one of the commercial outfits but its pretty darn pricey for that length of time. I'm in Calgary and would drive a reasonable distance.
If you have a phone and would be willing to talk to me about it please PM with your contact info and I will call you.
Thanks,
Mark

Global star has a deal on right now. The phone is $500.00 to purchase but the real deal is $39.99/mth for unlimited calling. Sounds like a good deal to me. I am planning a hunt this fall in northern bc with some buddies and one of them is planning on buying.

Sat. Phones
Vector Communication in Grande Prairie have good deals on purchase and rent. I have an " Inmarsat" satelite phone which costs .95/minute talk time and the great thing about this phone is you can text message, which is .25/minute. Beats the Iridium phone hands-down!-had 1 got rid of it!!
Good luck

For a phone that works about 20% of the time, it sounds expensive to me. Globalstar and northern Canada don't go hand in hand. I wouldn't waste your money.

On that! I should add I have used my Inmarsat phone throughout AB, Northern B.C., Alaska and Africa. However, usage costs vary a little in AK and Africa!

Here is a good article comparing (without bias) the Isatphone to Iridium.
Both Have some good points. I have an Iridium 9555 which I really like.
I personally like the sattelite set up for Iridium but the cost of the Isatphone is appealing as well.
As apposed to the 9505 I would go for the 9555, its lighter and slighlty more compact.
I would consider renting you mine but I have 2 trips planned between now and Sept 1. Leaving again Sept 2 for a 3rd trip.
Good Luck

X2. I have used Globalstar off the coast of B.C. and it was probably south of 20% in service. I eventually gave up and asked the company to allow me use of the radiophone, which I put on my calling card.

Canada Satellite rents Iridium phones. Usually have the latest and greatest at a good price. Rented one for a stone sheep/caribou hunt last august. They were good to deal with. They are located just north of downtown calgary on edmonton trail

Any place in Edmonton that rents? I need one for
September. What does it cost rent one? Or am I better off buying one?

Ended up renting a 9555 from Canada Satellite, pretty reasonable and great guys to deal with. Leaving next Wed for the NWT.
Thanks for the advice and tips.
