I just did the completely online application with a selfie picture. Just made sure there was good lighting and no shadows or dark areas.

It should actually be easier for them using a digital photo. Not sure why they even ask for a photograph anymore .... so as long as the photo is done reasonably well .... I dunno

So what has changed that they are rejecting pictures? I thought online is the way they prefer.

Maybe it's the mustache?

Just kidding cat.

I submitted mine a month or so ago. Immediately they did an initial review and they'll let me know if something isn't right

Soooo... if they did an initial review, why can't they tell me right away if something isn't right?

It appears that they just want to make the process as difficult and unpredictable as possible, firearms owners are the enemy of the government that pays them.

The second one they rejected was from Staples!
The one I sent in 4 1/2 years ago was a selfie in my truck, no problem!
I got my daughter to the the first one I applied for this time, and it was rejected so I sent the cash and went to Staples and IT WAS REJECTED!!
To say I am going ballistic just thinking about this is an understatement.

They rejected my picture as well. Taken in the exact same spot and the same way my previous picture was taken.

You need lots of back light on the wall behind you so you don't see any trace of a shadow.

I’m sure like every other inquiry with the Feds it depends who picks up the phone, or is doing the checking. I have spoken to amazing helpful people on the other end of the line, I have also experienced the complete opposite.

Forgot about that. I will make sure it needed a signature on pick up
My wife said last time we renewed , we used pics from staples , so we will see how this goes
They just seem to want to make it hard for everyone to renew or get a licence
I got till next Feb when it expires so they should be able to manage that
I always apply earlier I don’t want to loose my 12-6

I just figured to try it online but still have to mail in pic now so might as well just mailed it all in first lol
I went online and tried to see if I could add the pic in but it wouldn’t let me.
The manage application button would do nothing so there site sucks for being user friendly

Remember, it is the RCMP overseeing this, and they are working with the liberals to take our firearms away.

Default PAL Renewal Processing Time

How long is it currently taking to process a renewal?
I submitted my application mid Sept (expiry dat was early December), received a letter several weeks later indicating my photo did not meet the criteria, there wasn’t enough of my shoulders in the photo). I re-submitted a passport photo taken at Staples in November (no difference in the amount of shoulders in the passport photo) and it is still being processed.
What are others experiencing?
Thank you

Give them a call to find out. As soon as I called they completed the process as they had infront of them and was at my door in two weeks.

The system is so messed up, and inconsistent, that it can take from three weeks to 12 months or more. Call the Alberta CFO, at 1-800-731-4000 ext 9026, and they can help you. Don't bother speaking to the idiots in N.B., as they are totally useless.

There is no standard time frame!
If you get a CFP staffer who has some gitty up and go, it can be maybe 3-4 weeks. If you get a piece of deadwood handling your file it takes years in some cases.

Call the Alberta CFO’s extension and ask what the hold up is.

That’s the 1-800 number and extension 9026.

Don’t bother with the simple serpents in Mirimachi!

Thank you for the replies, I called the 1-800 number and 9026 extension and the individual I spoke to approved it while I was on the phone and indicated it would be printed and mailed!
Excellent service!
Thanks for the tip.

I don’t understand how their system works…my RPAL renewal took 14 weeks on line, my son-in-law received his in about 10 days. Go figure.

The system doesn't work, it's not supposed to be efficient, it's supposed to make it difficult for firearms owners, because that is what the liberals and the RCMP lapdogs running the program for them want.

This^

The agenda is to be a thorn towards firearms owners, and make firearms ownership a PITA.

Called in today after waiting since mid August. Renewal was approved while I was on the line and the whole thing took under 15 minutes including time waiting on hold.

It's really disgusting how expensive, yet inefficient the firearms office is.

Default incompetent firearms program

Anyone think its possible that they delay peoples renewals to the point that gun owners are now in possession of firearms without a valid license so they can then confiscate them. i wouldn't put it past them for trying. only 1 catch to that. if you don't own any restricted's they actually don't know what long guns you own being not registered. if any. Just because you have a firearms license doesn't in reality mean you even own a firearm. you may be contemplating purchasing a firearm.

I also understand there is a 6month grace period if your license. hasn't arrived by the expiry. I applied Sept 2023 . & expiry is Feb. 2024. & still nothing . except like many on here . my photo which was no different than any other photo 's i have submitted wasn't good enough -- so a new 1 was sent 3months ago & still haven't heard a thing.

Does anyone actually believe that the inefficiency is not by design? As long as the system has been in operation, all inefficiencies could surely have been eliminated by now, if the RCMP/liberals had wanted to eliminate them. And when you consider that the system no longer processes handgun transfers, they should have had no problem catching up with PAL processing.

Grace period hardly!

You can’t take your firearms out of your dwelling, and you can’t buy ammunition or a new firearm.

Unfortunately, many people don't know this, and some simply don't care.
