Default PAL Renewal

Hi Community,

My PAL expires in March. I applied back in Oct 2022. On contacting Alberta CFO, I got the following in the email

"Your PAL application has been received by the federal support unit within the Canadian Firearms Program and is awaiting review. "

Could someone advise me of my options.

Thanks in advance.

Default Try this number

Hi. I just went through this as well. Applied in July and nothing till this week. Call the below number with the Alberta cfo ext # (1800-731-4000 ext 9026). The two previous times I contacted the fed line they said all was good, no problems with the application. This week I stumbled into the alberta cfo ext and here we are. Spoke with a lady and I explained the situation. She put me on hold for a minute. When she came back she said all was sorted and I’d receive my pal in +/-4 weeks. Got an email the following day confirming her statement.

OP did you renew on line or by mail? Not that it is right but I have seen dramatic differences in renewal time based on the above.

I have to renew mine this year; what is the best/quickest option, online or by mail? I would assume online is quicker, but not sure. Mine expires in December and I'm looking to apply for renewal soon.

Thanks!

I applied online for my renewal in August, was expiring in December, and just received it two weeks ago. Multiple phone calls all with the same answer to the effect of - it has been through initial review and awaiting final approval. Frustrating to say the least. We had some really nice weather in January that a guy could have gone to the range

If I was you, I would already have applied for renewal.

Unless you have an old scientist, a flux capacitor, and a DeLoren that I can borrow, I'll have to settle for applying today.

Family member applied old school with paper application. Turn around time which included the Christmas holiday closure, and related mail volumes was two months to the day. Was expecting many months to process based upon the reported experience of others.

Apply online, make sure you follow all the rules, and provide all the information they require.

I applied online well in advance of my expiry, and received my PAL in about a month. My dad did the same and got his in around 6 weeks just recently. A buddy applied and it took over 6 months...so, who knows?

I see you and your dad's took hardly any time. Were both of your renewals PAL (as above) or an RPAL? mine is an RPAL. I've had long renewal times. Two times my application was delayed because I didn't include my range membership card. Unless I'm missing something, I can not find where you attach that on the initial application submission. I email the CFO later with an attachment of my membership, but it doesn't seem to speed anything up.

I have attached a copy of my range membership to a paper renewal application, but it mysteriously disappeared.

Do it online, do not send anything by mail unless there’s no other way.

Thank you for the tip and thanks to all the other members who chimed in. I will try that number today. For others who were asking, I did apply online.

Will update everyone after my phone call.

I will be applying for renewal myself next summer , and I will apply as early as I am allowed .If my expiry date approaches with no results, I will use whatever connections , that I can access, to contact the CFO to expedite it.

I renewed my PAL online July 22, 2022 before my expiry date mid Nov 2022. 3 calls later over the last 7 months and they tell me they are now getting to applications from last July August and will receive the new card in 3 weeks. That will put it at 8 months for an online renewal. Excessive lead time to say the least.

Default Applied end of May 2022

Been expired a few months now.

Called in a month ago and was told it was on someone's desk to being reviewed.

Called AB CFO and got the same run around.

Frustrated.

A call to your MLA and MP is a must, it’s amazing how fast things progress when some heat comes from the elected officials.

I wonder what changed. Because when I did mine less than two years ago (I think), I got the new card in less than a week. So did most other people I know who renewed online about the same time and about half an year later.

Did that already.

MP does not care (Tim UPPAL) can't even get past his secretary.

MLA is NDP (Rod LOYOLA) and got no responses (probably knows I did not vote for him).

Hope they come door knocking...

Find your closest Conservative members and get them involved, also hit the next gun show Mar 4&5 Stoney Plain and have a chat with Teri Bryant(AbCFO) herself.
