Camrose Range Update
I have just been informed that the electric gate to the range is now in operation. Access to the range is now gained by punching your access code into the keypad to the left of the gate. The electric gate will open, and you drive through, and the gate will close automatically behind you. To leave the range, punch your code into the keypad on the pole inside the gate, and the gate will open so you can leave. Guests can still access the range, if they accompany a member, but drop ins are not allowed to access the range, and they will be treated as trespassers if they try to follow a member through the gate. Starting in 2018, each member will be issued a swipe card to use to access the range.

Sounds great. The gate opens and closes electronically? Pictures?

Yes it is motorized, it opens when the code is entered, stays open for a set time, then closes. We went that route, as people were leaving the gate open, and non members were trespassing to use our range. We also installed cameras to monitor people entering and leaving the facility, so we can track who comes and goes and when they come and go. Beaverhill Sporting Clays uses a similar gate and is close to SPFGA if you want to look at one close up. I don't have any pictures at this time.

Where can you buy a range membership? How long is it good for? 1 year from the date of purchase?

Memberships are available online at the Camrose Shooting Sports Association site, and at the Camrose registry office. They are valid from January through December, and the price is the same whether you buy in January or November, so you are better off to purchase a membership early in the year.

Now that there is a better system to control access, has the option to make memberships valid for 1 year from the time of purchase, or offer 3-4 month memberships. Just thinking you may have more people interested, especially from July-November

We are not considering any changes to the membership duration. The club is run entirely by volunteers, and we are keeping things as simple as possible to keep our workload as light as possible. Our membership is growing yearly, and if it grows too large, we will outgrow our facility, and we may have to consider a membership cap as other clubs have done.

I think there are very few Ranges that offer exceptions to "calendar year" memberships. Much easier to enforce.

Exactly, one expiry date makes it much simpler for us, and with only a handful of people doing almost all of the work to keep the club operating, we need to keep things simple.
