This is possible at some ranges.

Would 100 and 300 ever work like this?

What bullet and what velocity? Even my 7mmRUM wouldn't shoot that flat, and not many cartridges shoot as flat as the 7mmRUM.

About the only way that I can come close to those numbers is with the reticle mounted 5"- 6" above the bore.

Got my numbers directly from the Nosler website.

Personally, I don't shoot anything further than 300 yards, so it's point and shoot.

I'm sighted in 1" high at 100.

If I'm wrong in the thinking here, correct me .

You previously posted -1 at 100, not +1. Huge difference.

I used to think that the stories of guys not knowing what kind of ammo their gun uses were urban legends.

And then, last week at WSS Calgary.
A guy walks up to the counter and asks the salesperson if the box of dies are the right ones for his gun. The guy is right beside me and I can see the box is labelled 300 Savage.

Salesperson asks if the gun is chambered for 300 Savage.
The guy states that the gun is a savage.

Salesperson asks what kind of ammo the gun shoots.
The guy says 300 mag.
Salesperson asks 'which one?'
The guy says 'what do you mean?'

The discussion went on for a bit. I have to say that the salesperson was very patient.
I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't right there.
Not sure if the guy was trolling the salesperson or if there were hidden cameras set up.

One doesn't actually have to visit a gun counter to witness idiotic comments, questions or suggestions. Just stay tuned on the internet, you'll get a full day's worth.

Yeah, 7" difference between center of scope and centerline of barrel, then it's possible to hit at 100 and 300 yards.

Practical or realistic... Nope.

Guy at counter talking to customer while getting him a box of ammo....." your 270 is an ok rifle, you just need to be sure to really get them in the chest cause it's a really small bullet"........as if you could just get "close" to the chest with a 30 cal and not need to worry???

There used to be a fellow who worked at Phoenix Range, was a bit of a BS machine. Anyways, I had to butt in when he was trying to sell a 300 RUM to a dad and his12 year old boy, maybe 80 pounds soaking wet, as a first rifle. The kid had probably gotten his youth PAL and thre salesman's reasoning was, you could start with the .308 velocity loads, move up to the 30-06 velocity loads, and eventually graduate to full power 300 RUM game slaughtering magic loads.

I realise it's rude to interfere with someone carrying out their business, but I was pretty annoyed and kind of called him out right in the middle of his sales pitch.

No idea what the kid ended up with as I obviously left the store after rudely interfering in what was probably a lucrative sale. It would have too be for this guy to try to push that sale as he had been around long enough to know better. Really just plain greed and dishonesty.

I do realise that Remington marketed their 300 Ultra Mag this way but I'm certain that a 300 RUM loaded to .308 win velocity would still generate more recoil than a .308 and cost far more to shoot.

Not to mention, .308 win wouldn't be on my list of appropriate chamberings for a young shooter to begin with.

Last year when WSS was clearing out I was flip-flopping between buying a new Fierce CT Edge vs. buying a Sako Greywolf?
So the "gun expert" at the counter tells me he's never heard tell of Fierce Firearms,so I go on to explain who they are and that they are essentially a "semi-custom"/production rifle based on a Sako action with extreme tight tolerances, match grade barrels, sub .5 MOA guarantee out of the box yada yada yada.....
So after a few minutes fondling this Sako and debating wether I should pony up x2 the price for the Fierce that I REALLY want,he tells me the Sako is a much better value and I'm just wasting my money buying a Fierce (which is imho out of the box comparable with most any full custom build and substantially less $$ for what you are getting)

Ok....so let me get this straight......5 minutes ago you'd never even heard tell of Fierce Firearms, and now all of a sudden you are an expert and can definitively say that Sako is a much better value??
Sorry bud....you obviously don't have a clue what you nor I am talking about....thx anyway for your expert opinion though.

FWIW....I ended up buying the Fierce.🙂

I can hit bull at 100 and 300y with no holdover but it’s hard to find a place where you can shoot straight down

And yet some people are buying up to $20-30,000 orders of ammunition and reloading components these days.

The thing that seems most common these days though, is people claiming that their cheap Turkish made shotguns are just as reliable and durable as the Browning, Benelli, and Beretta guns. I was actually in Canadian Tire a few weeks ago, picking up some handwarmers, and I couldn't help but overhear a clerk telling someone that the Turkish shotgun that he was looking at was exactly the same gun as a Benelli, but at half the price.

Not at a gun counter but I was told by someone at the range a while back that the 308 is no good for 1,000 meter shooting, you need the 338 Lapua to be accurate.

INDEED

Bullets leave the muzzle going UP cross your line of sight at X then reach there maximum height at Y then drop back till they cross you line of sight at X2, then proceed to fall to the ground at some point which is point Z.

So with the right sight in and ballistics it is VERY possible to sight in at at two useable real life hunting ranges.

P.S. bullets never shoot FLAT they are falling the MOMENT they leave the muzzle.

Not at gun counter, semi-truck driver from work joined a conversation 3 of us were having about rifles. He proceeded to tell us he loves his 338 Lapua, can shoot up to 2 km and the best thing is that the bullet actually picks up speed after 750yds. 😳🤯

I did over hear a lady ask what her first gun should be for property defence against two and four legged creatures. Had a laugh hearing the salesmen repeatedly ask what she was going to hunt with it. Apperently “I just want somthing to scare them” wasn’t a good enough answer.

I did have a salesman tell me to “get over it” and “you shouldn’t need to reload if you’re any good” when I asked if they had any left handed rifles.

6.5 Shooter who ever said that to you was correct. Yes the bullet starts falling the moment it leaves the rifle if it is perfectly level and sighted at the muzzle. How you would do that I don't know. How ever even sighted in at 100yds the bullet crosses the line of sight twice. The reason being your muzzle is below your scope or sights. We would likely have a tough time seeing this in real life because the climb would be so hard to notice.
