Default Simmons scopes?

Does anyone have a Simmons scope. I'm thinking of a new coyote gun, and one of the guns I'm thinking about comes as a package with a Simmons 4-12 scope. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They may be good entry level scopes, but I would stay away from them. I had one that fell apart on my 22, same with my buddys. But I have another friend who hasn't had any problems with his on a 270 wsm. Get what you can afford I guess, but I have a hunch you are looking at a savage, I would just buy the non package rifle and buy a Leupold vx-1 or vx-2, or even a bushnell trophy is better than the simmons.

My 2 cents.

The aetecs, 44 mags and prohunter models are ok but the ones sold with the packages aren't those ones and as noted above usually fail quickly.

My 597HB in .22LR wears a Simmons, it's acceptable and works well, but I wouldn't put one on a big game rifle. My .223 varmint gun wears a Bushnell Trophy and I'd have to agree on it's superiority over the Simmons, still wouldn't put one of those on a big game rifle. For the money and based on budget, they're OK.

Do yourself a favor and save a little cash for a scope. These days you need to spend at least $300 to get something that works OK. There are lots of cheaper scopes out there and it's a real crap shoot trying to find a good one for less than that amount.

I bought a savage .243 with a 4/12 Simmons on it. It was alright for a while but I found the clarity not to my satisfaction. Just replaced it with a Leupold 4.5/14/40 this fall. I wouldn't purchase another Simmons.

I agree, but not completely. I just thought of another great scope for a decent price, redfield!!!! These are made by Leupold and have there lifetime warranty, and they are great scopes for just over $200. I have an older Redfield MK4 tracker 3-9x44, it is right on par with the vx-1, vx-2, and not far behind the vx-3. (with my eyes anyway)
