Hiked out to Elk Lake in Banff National Park on the weekend. It's 13km to backcountry campground and another 2.6km up to the lake.
Elevation gain is somewhere around 628 meters to the campground, and another 214 meters up to the lake.
We went for (2) nights and had pretty heavy packs (training for elk season!) and it took us just under 3.5 hours with breaks to get to the campground. We dropped off our camping gear, rigged up day packs, and set out to the lake. It took about 35 minutes to hit the lake.
Fishing was subject to wind, as when it calmed down they were hitting like crazy. The cutties and rainbows seemed to like most of my green flies (green drakes and green backed mosquitos) the most.
