Default Grand Prairie area gets a new Recreation Area designated.

Thought this was worthy of mentioning...

The Alberta government is turning the Saskatoon Mountain Natural Area into a Provincial Recreation Area.

"Rules strengthened and enforced, increased protected area, illegal trails closed and reclaimed, better and more facilities and the change will not affect hunting and OHV activity on designated trails" And another part of the greater Y2Y Conspiracy ???????

"In 2014, Alberta Parks consulted the public and OHV stakeholders on a proposal to reclassify and expand Saskatoon Mountain Natural Area. In the proposal, hunting and OHV activity on designated trails would continue to be permitted"

It will be interesting to see what the current government does with it's own proposed parks.

That would be excellent if those uses continue to be permitted. My main issue is that why aren't existing laws being enforced? If they were, the natural area designation would have no need to change. It seems to be a catch-all. Hey, we have problems, and we're not enforcing things, so lets just shut er all down and make it a park!

Sorry, I'm cynical....

Take it as you will. I'd call it from my part an observation based on experience.

This is one of the first lines in the article!!!!

"to support future development as an Alberta Parks destination and to protect sensitive ecosystems."

Does anyone get to hunt in an Alberta Park????

So the writing is on the wall.

And this is wording from their Concept Plan document.

As a provincial park, motorized trail use and hunting would be
prohibited. This strategy was presented at five open houses and posted on the Alberta Parks website for a 60 day comment period. A majority of responses from the public participation did not support this
proposal and the decision was made to continue with the status quo for the time being.

So read this.....doesn't matter what the public have told them...this govt wants what it wants in spite of public input......and they are planning to move forward later irregardless of public local public opinion..........that what "for the time being" means.

Pretty ignorant of them.

Don't they have better things to do? Rather than making criminals of us for hunting and riding trails...
Here's a novel idea, use the resources that would be enforcing the law on that park to rather go after thieves,
so that law abiding homeowners don't have to shoot them!
Or maybe they've been too preoccupied with these "parks" to notice!

They should have focused their attention on the red deer river heritage rangelands and the rumsey block.
