Default Trying to find Shore Lunch Batter- round 5? Maybe 6....FOUND LOCALLY!!!

This forum seems to be the only place I can ever find this stuff. I see that FIshin Hole had disco'd it, and that in 2017 there was a contamination scare.
Has anyone seen this on a shelf lately?

Ken, why not just make your own? It's just a mix of flour and a few spices. Some of the best shore lunches I have had, the fish were dipped in an egg and milk mixture and then coated in a mixture of flour and seasoning salt.

I have tried lots of different ways, and many batters but I gotta tell you, when it doesn't have life threatening salmonella Shore Lunch is hard to beat! It looks though like that is what is going to have to happen.

There is one we buy at Bass Pro that we really like too, its called Uncle Bucks. There is also a corn bread / fritters mix that is good.

After checking all grocery stores, I only found it at Save-on. Nowhere else. The box says it's made by Sportsmen's Recipes in Georgia, USA

In my opinion, nothing is better than Fish Crisp.
I've tried them all and the roasted garlic & butter Fish Crisp is approaching absolute perfection. Especially if used with a shaker box like the ones made by Uncle Buck's.
And it's available almost everywhere.

Your favorite store has is

https://www.cabelas.ca/product/2581/...ish-batter-mix

If you can ever find Guides Choice Cajun Seasoned Coating Mix it is amazing, too bad cabela's doesn't carry it any more.

Could be discontinued. Went to Save-on this morning to get some and they don't stock it any more. Not in the computerized inventory system

We do something similar but I bring a few different bags of flavored potato chips (I like Salt and Vinegar) and people can choose a bag, crush it up into fine crumbs, toss the fillets inside to coat, and then fry or bake. Chips and hickory sticks are also good for impromptu batter when back country camping as they contain a lot of oil and won't stick to a frying pan.

I like to use Aunt Jemima pancake mix instead of flour, add spices of your choice.

Sounds like the hassle I used to go through to get my favorite hot sauce (which isn't sold in Canada period!). Used to drop ship to border mail service in Coutts or Winkler when I lived in 'peg. Now I just picked up 4 bottles when I was in Florida. They will ship to Canada, but it more than doubles the price.

We all have our favorites!

Oh, an my wife just makes her own batter mix, not sure her recipe but it's good!

Neither are carrying it any longer.

Back to sq 1.

I have tried a bunch of variants on halibut, and nothing comes close.

Back to sq 1.
