Default 3 point minimum

I have a chance to hunt the pincher creek area with a hunter host. My question is why is that area a 3 point minimum? Is it because there's not many elk there? Lots of big elk? Ect

They want recruitment...not a bunch of dead 1-2 year olds.

Some areas are 6 point or larger, I believe 3pt is the minimum allowed in any zone, I'm not aware of any zones that even allow spike horns as a minimum.

last time I remember seeing a something similar to a spiker season was a special draw in Ya-Ha maybe around 1990 or 91, somewhere in that time frame. Although, memory may be off on that, may have been 3 point. I got a 5pt out of there about then.

There are several zones that allow ANY elk to be taken archery only, and some ANY antlered elk (4” or greater, no point minimum) during the general season draws, with appropriate draw of course. 248/212 are two of them.

There is no 3 point requirement for pretty much all of the 200 zones and most of the 100 zones. A lot of them can be hunted during archery on general tag.

There are a pile of zones that allow spikes to be harvested.
