Default .338 Win Mag Load Question

Hey everyone,
I have a Savage Alaska Brush Hunter in .338WM with a 20” barrel. I am wondering if w748 might be an option with the 210 Nosler Partition or Barnes 210 TSX in such a short barrel. My 6 manuals only list the medium and slow burners with 24” or 26” test barrels. I found a bit of online information regarding the use of w748, but not much.
Thanks
Cory

Win 748 should work very well with that ctdg and barrel length.

Work up to 65.7 gr

Personally I think Win 748 has too fast of a burn rate for 338 win mag to be a very good choice with so many other more suitable powders on the market.

4831. My hunting partner has been shooting 210 partitions for years that I load for him and has killed a pile of game with them. Stock up on 210s because they are getting real hard to find.

W748 would certainly not be my first choice for a 338WM, 760 I might consider with the 210, if that was the only powder I had and couldn't get anything else. RL19 and H4831 are the two best powders I ran in mine, with 210's and 250's.

Guys, I do appreciate your thoughts on your personal load data, I really do. But, I too have been loading this cartridge for years, always in a 24” barrel. What I am seeking is performance from the 20” barrel.

I've loaded for friends 338wm, sako vi, 20" barrel with 2" brake on it. Used barnes data for 210ttsx with rl17, hornady case, federal gm215 primer. Top load delivered clover leaf @100y, 2 grains less gave .85" group(edge to edge). My loads gave 100fps less than barnes table suggests, measured with magnetospeed at medium setting.

RL16 may be worth checking out to use in a 20", bit faster than 17, temp stable, Western Metals has some. Shows good velocity with a 210, 29+ in a 24, shud work well in a 20". I'd definitely stick to 4064 or slower, give up a lot with what I see on faster powders than that for a 210. 748 is too fast and not a temp stable powder, 760 is at least in the better burn range with the 210, but, there are better powders to use.
