Still have my first big game rifle a Ruger 30-06. It does not get out much anymore but she holds a track record of being a real killer. Still in really good shape. When my boy has moved out and reached a stable point in life I will pass it down to him

Had my dad's first 1920's SxS and it was usable with today's light load ammo.

His first Remington 870 when they first came out; corn cob fore-end and cardboard 1950's ammo.

Cooey 39 from my paper route in the 60's, Acme Novelty on 10 Ave SW Calgary

All minty and plenty of memories.....then some jerk-off(s) broke in busted up my place and stole everything......

Thanks...
I have come to realize the personal violation a family feels when this happens...And the anger of knowing, I may never see them again..... Worse yet that these A-holes felt entitled to do this.

This is why I tell everyone to inventory all their possessions as the insurance industry can be very fickle in paying out your claim.

People are very surprised at the replacement value of a full tackle box or a rack of clothing; it adds up quickly....

Nobody in my family did any hunting or shooting but I was pretty keen to get into it so I bought a sporterized army surplus 30-06 from a used gun guy that had a really cheap tasco scope on it. The wood was gorgeous and shiny and I loved it from the moment I saw it. I was so proud of that gun. what I didn't know at the time, because I had no experience at all, was that the thing was pretty wore out and hitting a pie plate at 100 yds was a challenge, but I did hit the pie plate and I thought that thing was the most beautiful gun in the world and my most prized possession. I even killed some game with it although looking back I really don't know how. Fast forward a few years, learn a little bit about guns and shooting and realize this thing is really a POS, but it was my first gun and I loved it. I eventually bought my first new gun, a Rem BDL in 7mm rem mag at Frenchy's in Inglewood sometime in the 80's and retired it.
Then I got broken into and lost both of them. I still think about that POS 30-06 though. Proof that you can enjoy something for what it is and not necessarily for what it does.

Still have my first rifle. A Stevens 200 in 25-06. It has become my predator gun so it comes out every winter. Then all summer i will look at it and think I should really change out that cheap grey plastic stock an get the trigger adjusted but then I will take it out and it will still be the best shooting rifle I own and think to my self if it ain't broke don't fix it

My first rifle was a Lakefield 22 semi my father gave me for my 16th birthday. A small spring clip and the firing pin are broken now. The firing pin is no longer available, but one can be made from a cooey semi. Much rather let it sit in the safe as is in remembrance of my father. I inherated my father's cooey model 71 3006 bolt action which my son will get when I go to the great hunting grounds in the sky. I can shoot that '06 equally well from either shoulder as many an animal that has filled my freezer can attest too. I now use a BLR pistol grip on '06.

After owning my first rifle, that was bought at my request as a Xmas present for me, for 30 years, I sent it to auction. Realised I hadnt used it in over a decade, and thought it was time for someone else to enjoy it, and as a milsurp, the accessories I had collected with it. I thought it would be harder to part with, but realised it was a gift I chose, not truly one from my parents, so it seemed good to let it go.

First rifle was a Weatherby Vanguard in .270 Win that fits me like a glove, will never get rid of it. My daughter shoots it as well or better than i do, used it to get her first elk last year! One upped the old man with his own gun!

How do you want to define "first"? I joined the military out of HS, so my the first rifle that I was responsible for was an M-16A2. (I'm originally from the US)

I inherited a bunch of guns from my grandfather ~3 years later, so the first in a self-possession sense was a Mossberg Mariner. Used it mostly for slugging and then sold it on consignment a year and half later. His estate later had a number of other unclaimed guns, including a few Class 3 / NFA guns, which made closing the estate a little complicated. I ended up with a couple ARs and a revolver when the dust settled.

First gun I actually paid out of my own pocket for was a 10/22 here in Edmonton.

Kinda wish I kept the Mariner and one of the revolvers, but getting those into Canada would be a pain.

My first rifle was a semi auto 30 06 Remington model 7600. At least I think maybe it was a 7400. Think that’s the pump version. Anyways it was a one shot gun. Would not group to save my life. But first shot was always fine. I got fed up with the lack of it’s ability to group and traded it in for a browning medallion Abolt in 7mm rem mad. What a relief to have a rifle that could group. The only good thing about the Remington was that someone liked it the first time they saw it.

I bought a BSA bolt action 30-06 with a 4x bushnell for $100 from some guys I worked with when I was 16 so I could go out deer hunting with them. Kept it, had a gun smith buddy clean it up and fix the stock, got a new 3x9 scope on it, and still use it regularly.

My first would of been a single shot (cooey?) ranger .22 that my grandfather gave me. It’s still in my safe even though it hasn’t been shot in about 20 years.

My first big game rifle I bought when I was 18, a brand new Remington 7600 in .243 and I’ve loved it ever since. Great rifle and I’ll never get rid of it, shot it a few years with iron sights. Wears a leupold vx freedom 1.5-4x20 and I love that scope, it’s in leupold quick release rings. So I can still use the iron sights.

Winchester '94 30-30. Bought at McCloed's (Not sure if I spelled that right, pre-dates the internet.) Think I paid something like $188.97. Now they're about $1300. How things have changed. Sold it after 1 or 2 seasons to buy a beautiful Winchester 70 XTR in 300 WM. Wish I still had them both. Nowdays I only buy guns, never sell.

The first gun bought "for me" by my dad was a Husqvarna 6.5 x 55 military issue from Sweden. Bought back in the day at the old historical arms gun shows in Edmonton.

I can't sell any gun. I'd have a nervous breakdown. They will go to my sons when I'm dead but then I won't have a nervous breakdown cause I'll be dead.

My dad gave me his Garcia (SP?) SxS 12 gauge in the late 80s as he didn't bother getting a FAC and I was the only one with this. When I was away on deployment, I stored it at an uncle's place but he died and my cousin stole it. Incidentally she became a successful estate raider as other uncles and aunts died off, collecting all kinds of stuff to augment dole. I did find an old Mossberg 510 pump 410 gauge after dad died in 93 (before she found it) and still have it.
My first center fire rifle was bought in 1996, a sporterized Lee Enfield SMLE 303 British 1919. It is still in the gun cabinet, last used it six years ago, got a moose then.

My first rifle was a 303 British Bubba something or other. Had a peep sight, short barrel with a flash arrestor, blond wood forearm, dark stock. She was a sight to behold. Paid 20 bucks for it. Wasn’t much that was safe when I had that thing in my hands. Unfortunately my X liked it better than me. Sure miss that rifle.

Preban Ruger Mini 14 with the most beautiful laminate stock I’ve ever seen. Sold it to my dads cousin when I joined the army back in 2005. Sucks cause I’ve never seen one like it since and anything close minus the stock they’re asking over twice what I sold it to him for. Oh well live n learn. Got ARs now and they’re a bit more familiar to me after years of soldiering.
