H&R rifle stock

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I took apart my H&R model 340 long action 30-06 today to inspect it. And noticed that the wooden stock is cracked. So I'm thinking I need a new one. Where does someone go and find a stock for a rifle that hasn't been in production for many years. And also I believe that H&R has been sold a few times.

I believe the 340 is a Mauser based rifle so finding a nice replacement stock should actually be pretty easy. The biggest challenge would be ensuring a proper match to the barrel contour.

Iirc it's built on a Santa Barbara action same as many parker hales. It's a mauser X action. I do not remember if they have blind mag or box mag. A stock inletted for a box mag will be tougher to find but a simple blind mag stock is readily available from most stock manufacturers. Other option is fixing the crack there is many ways of doing this and it can certainly be a diy job.

Thanks. I was thinking of Yvan. But looking at the Boyd's stock website I got confused and couldn't find my gun and model, or what could potentially be used as a direct replacement.

I think my stock could potentially be fixed. And a gunsmith like "Yvan" will be a proper first step.

Is it a hinged floorplate or detachable magazine model ?

Sorry yes it's the spring loaded magazine with the hinged floor plate

Most 98 mauser sporter stocks will likely be a close fit including Boyds.Their laminates can either be opened up or glass bedded to fill in any voids.

The 340 H&R is an Interarms markX action . I looks like a mauser 98 it is not exactly the same. A 98 Mauser stock will not work .Need an Interarms mark X stock

I don’t know how applicable this is but when guy are wood turning cracked up wood they will bond the cracks with CA glue (Crazy Glue) and just continue and the wood holds together. So you could hit it with super thin CA glue and clamp it back together and have a repaired stock while you look for a replacement.

Update. I decided to have Ivan of High River gun worx fix my cracks, bed, pillar, and free float my barrel. Because of the sentimental value this gun has to my family. I decided not to fool around and try it myself. I guess Ivan pins the cracks. I tried working glue into the crack but the glue never got in deep enough to get any strength and failed as soon as I placed the rifle back into the stock again. It should be a shooter when he gets done with it.
