Default Backpacking trip

Hey guys just wondering if you were headed out this weekend for a 4 day trip where would you go with the rain coming in? I'm debating LOF/Landslide, Jasper for Geraldine, Banff/Kananaskis pretty well anywhere, or into BC to maybe find some sun. If you had the time off this weekend where would you go?

Also anyone recommend a good light fly rod or spin rod for backpacking?

Thanks guys

I'd go for anywhere that has a decent forecast. But I am a fair weather kinda guy.

I've always been intrigued by Mt. Assiniboine Park in BC. Magog lake plus others nearby. But I definitely can't speak from personal experience.

Could also try golden trout in southern AB if its sunny.

I'd take a 4 piece 5/6 weight for those lakes. Some companies make rods with even more pieces, some make a spin/fly hybrid rod.

Great rod that I've taken to Africa and Bahamas now. Packs up to just over a foot long. 6 piece and affordable and good quality rod:

Thumbs up x2 on the Classic Trout

Have it in both the 3wt and 5wt as a back-up one of them always goes along whether its NZ or on the Dual Sport have yet to need it but I use the 4-peice models as loaners in the boat and they work just fine

Thanks guys, I think me and the wife are going to do the Grey Owl hike in Prince Albert National Park. Not sure how good the fishing will be, but should be a fun hike. Most of the mountain hikes look like they might get snow, so Im gonna bail on those. Guess I'll have to wait until August to get up to LOF.

Also I'll look at getting one of those Classic Trout rods. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Check out https://Trailpeak.com. Has most of the trails in north america posted. Some of the trail posts have comments and tips left by people.

I think the Waskahegen trail would be interesting too. It goes from Elk Island park all the way down to near Camrose. 300 km round trip. Goes through parklands.

That’s a great hike, I’ve been in 3 times but it was a lifetime ago. I was a teen and I caught fish.
