Favourite 243 bullet for deer
A friend is instrrested in having some 243 rounds hand loaded. Having not ever owned one I don’t know where to start for a good recommendation on weight or bullet so what are all you 243 guys using out there for hunting loads.

I have had very good results with 90 Grain Nosler Accubonds. Just below max load they grouped very nicely, just under 1 MOA.

This rifle is a youth rifle for his kids and his wife to shoot would that change the loads you guys would use or would you just load them up not as hot.

My son started shooting his 243 when he was 9 or 10, I don't think you can load up a 243 hot enough for recoil to be a factor lol.

When I used to hunt deer with a .243 I was never found wanting with 100 gr.
Nosler Partitions. They did a lot of damage.

Partitions or Bonded bullets, take your pick.
I stopped using TTSX after several long runners! This was the theme for 243 TTSX but they worked fine for me in 6.5mm and 7mm. Not exactly sure why.

My daughters started hunting at age 12 with their 243s. Amazing what the 85gr Barnes TSX can do. Only one ran, but that was my fault. She hit it low in the chest because I didn't range it. I was confident it was no more than 300yds. It was probably more like 350 or 375. I should have told her aim a little higher.

Good terminal performance using this bullet on deer size game? I shoot Bergers in almost all my guns and was thinking of adding a 6mm to the collection. Just hard to find real world results with this bullet.

I have had great results with 100 Gr Partitions. Also had poor penetration with 100 SGK bullets...

Had trouble with hornady 100 grain going through without expanding long thin blood trails finding deer a day later. Tried 80 grain grain cup and core bullets worked fine but switched to Nosler partitions and haven’t looked back.

243 bullet choice
I have used one for 40+ yrs. and had good luck with Hornady 100gr inter-lock or speer hot cors !! Used cheaper bullets than the premo's and had great success with proper shot placement and stalking close-200yds or so.!! Its the guy behind the trigger that makes it work effecientially.. JMO..!! No magnums killers needed if you do your part !! KPCRK..!!

CAN'T shoot deer with a 243. Completely immoral, unethical, bad idea, not enough Energy, just wrong and wrong headed. Atsa matta for you. Need at least Short Mag, Long Mag more appropriate!
All kidding aside, the 243 is the perfect place to use Monolithic Bullets Like Barnes 85 TSX, 95 LRX and TTSX or the limited expansion Partition. The 243's high muzzle velocity and good ballistics makes great use of these higher end bullets and these bullets will give you penetration if you run across something bigger..
