Default Tikka T-3 Aluminum Bolt Shroud

I wasn't thrilled with the plastic bolt shrouds on my two T-3s, so I ordered a couple of aluminum shrouds off of a machinist on CGN. I just received them yesterday, and am pleased with the fit, finish and the price. For $40 each plus shipping, they look exactly like the factory shrouds, and they fit very well. They are available in black, or in stainless to match either action color. If you are interested in purchasing one, look up Flick over at the CGN forum.

Never really worried me...guess if it broke I'd replace it with an aluminum one but plastic one seems to work fine.

A reloading miscue by a friend, completely shattered his Tikka plastic bolt shroud. He was fortunate not to lose an eye.

I changed out the shrouds because I have seen them crack, and chip. For the price, it seemed like a good idea.

The black plastic shroud on Sako A7's can be replaced with an Sako 85 shroud.

Does it require a gunsmith to install a new one ?

You can change the shroud on a T-3 in less than 10 seconds without tools once you have the bolt in your hands.

I am just curious, what is too stop the aluminum one from coming backwards and hitting you in the face as opposed to the plastic one?

It won't shatter like the plastic shroud will, so it will be less likely to become dislodged.

Considering how many rifle makes/models use bolt aluminum shrouds, I don't see any issues.

You're welcome. It's really up to you, I'm sure there are a lot out there that haven't been replaced and are just fine.

I got my new shroud from Flick last year. Awesome job!! ...he was talking about possibly doing some bottom metal too for the T3's maybe this year ...That'd be Kool!!

I read that a few guys break the plastic shroud when they take their bolt apart to clean it ...they turn it the wrong way and let it uncock(drop down) on the shroud and unfortunately..... cracking it.
