Anchoring Ice Fishing Shack
I had posted earlier but I think it disappeared for some reason.
I am planning on getting a cheap camper and converting it into an ice fishing shack this spring for next season, with the high winds lately and seeing pictures of campers upside down and torn to pieces I've been thinking of a way to anchor a camper to the ice.
From the research I have done people are saying to tie a rope to a 2x4 and shove it down a hole and let it freeze in, I hate that idea because what gets left in the ice goes into the lake and that's how stuff gets shut down.
Is there anything you guys can recommend that can be taken out at the end of the season? The shack will be permanently set for the season until it comes time to take it off.
Also would like to hear ideas for layouts and other cool things you guys have done with campers for ice fishing! That may require a post of it's own when I have a camper to start working on

Go to a climbing store and buy four 6” ice screws.

After last nights wind all the ice fishing shacks and lined up on the south east shore line of the lakes, probably not so neat either

Anchoring shack
I have a length of chain attached to all 4 corners of my shack. About a foot of chain lays on the ice with shack in place. Drill a shallow hole and place chain in. Add water or slush and voila shack is secured. My shack is plastic and lightweight and has never moved in several crazy winds over the last 8 years. Takes 10 seconds a corner to remove chains with hatchet which is always in the shack for splitting wood

This is what saved my shack from flying down the lake. I am presuming there was 100km winds that day as it did try going for a ride.
It's an old chopped up trailer tongue 12" in the ice. I used it's safety chain and attached it to the shack.
I am hoping if I heat it up it will pull right out.

4 anchors drilled in and frozen.
Put 2 heavy duty ratchet straps overtop the shack and down to the ice

The idea of the four chains is a good one. When we anchored stuff we just used hemp rope froze into a hole. Cut the hemp off at ice level to remove, 6" piece of hemp left in ice would rot away in fairly short order. The chain idea is even better as long as it is set so it is easy to chip out, you leave nothing behind.

I have a similar style shack on Gull and I will be anchoring it down next time I'm out. I can only imagine the mess if the wood stove spilled it's ashes all over

Mine was flipped and blown a mile down lac ste Anne last week I reset and to stop from blowing away again I drilled a hole with auger right up against shack on each side and dropped a four foot fence post in. Shack can't move in any direction now. Holes stop just short of water

That sounds like a half assed solution.
(Which is still half an ass more effort than I made to secure mine )
I hope it works out.

If the holes stop just short of the water then the posts wont be frozen in because theres no water in the holes to freeze them in

so when I was in the army the rangers would chip out of the ice anchoring points to tie off of and it was windy and freakin cold....might be an idea as you leave nothing in the ice at all....or just use those long metal dog yard anchoring points.....
