Default Repowering tinner

I have been throwing around the idea of recovering my 16' Misty River V hull. Currently I have a 2000 Johnson 25hp outboard with a 20" shaft. I have been fishing the NSR more and more, but am very limited on where i can safely run due to shallow conditions. So with that in mind I've been looking at the new Mercury 25hp jet as they are rated at the jet. My main issue is that I'm a very large guy and am concerned the jet won't get my boat on step. Can anyone give me some insight on the pro's and con's of running this setup.

My transom is rated for a 40 but you normally need 40hp to make 25 hp at the pump i thought

If you have the cash, I'd suggest a Honda or Yamaha.

They are bullet proof reliable. Any time you can choose - but the best. When you are buying from a dealer, sometimes your choices are limited.

If this was me, I'd get a Honda or Yamaha.

Not sure if Yamaha has a 25 Jet in a tiller model. Unfortunately 25hp will just about top my budget

if you buy a factory40hp jet you can mount it on your 40 hp transom. the head is labeled, decaled and stated in the manual as a 40hp. Call any dealer and they will confirm this.

Now if you bought a 60 HP prop (which is the power head on the 40 hp jet) and ordered a jet conversion from outboardjets.com you could be in some trouble when the water cops look at you boat.
