Pretty sad, really.
Doesn’t take many idiots to ruin things for the rest.

I'm sorry, but how do you know who did it?
I would give it an equal chance of being a park supporter trying to add the fuel...

Yes vandalism is totally unacceptable, but the way the park was rammed down the locals throats it makes for huge resentment. I’m not surprised to see this happen.

Really?
If that's the case you wouldn't be allowed to walk down any alley in Calgary or Edmonton. They'd all be fenced off and closed to all traffic or people.
C'mon man...

First clue was the boulder pulled 100 yards down the trail. Not to many Priuses are capable of pulling that off.

Anybody think that when the NDP get the boot next election, that any of these changes in the Castle will revert back to the way it used to be in some way?

Used to do a lot of hunting in the Spray Valley, 20 minute drive and you were hunting. Now it is a park (except north of the road from Whiteman's Pass to Buller). It started with gates on the old cut blocks, boulders blocking pretty much any entrance off road. If you wanted to get to areas to hunt you had to hike. We got used to it and it made for less hunters and could you try to imagine if all those old roads were still open and every yuppie jockey in their brand new jeep cherokee tearing the hell out the valley. Like I said, you get used to it.

I doubt it. Likely they will write in some sort of legislation that will make it difficult to reverse. But hell if they can just make something a park then they should just be able to not make it park.

No not likely, it would be a bad political move to reverse a park. That’s why it was an early goal for the NDP. People hope that a new government might loosen restrictions and make it more user friendly.

Ya maybe , but I don’t think it was young punks that targeted all the parks trucks in the Pincher Creek parking lot though.

I’ve seen more slob backpacker and Atv Utv enthusiasts in the bush over the years, generally I’m hard pressed to find a hunter who doesn’t respect the woods, if they really want to make a point on the park don’t damage the signage, decomission the road, 😂

Is this down the south castle? I thought everyone was supposed to park at the base of the first hill at the dry creek bed?

Nobody was tearing up this area. There are some really good trails to get you back into some awesome hunting and berry picking and now the older generation who have put more taxes into this province than anyone can't enjoy getting out doing what they love. But yet it's ok for Shannon to put water and pave the road to the westcastle ski hill for a couple hundred people to enjoy on the taxpayers dollar and do this through an ecological area too boot where you can't hunt or fish.

check out the crow snowriders website. Someone stole their green C Can by the Lost Creek shelter. If I had a wreck in the area I would want those guys looking for me. For years they have been sledding in the area but now things have changed. https://www.facebook.com/CrowSnowRiders/

Doesn't shock me. One only has to go out to Ghost after a long weekend to see the calibre of human that "use" these areas. Garbage everywhere, burned out trailers, shot up targets etc etc. Make it no wonder they closed the Castle. More will follow if people don't smarten up.

One point for the ATv'ers is that their presence deters vandalism.

They built a staging area in the last random spot on the right going down that hill. They had the south Castle trail blocked at the crossing in the spring to stop traffic across the creek while it flowed. If you check the access map for the Castle you will see you can drive to the Grizzly staging area. Only Highway vehicles no OHV. There is a sign part way down the trail indicating where the Park ends and the Wilderness area starts. That sign also states that there is no camping or fires allowed within 1 klm of the trail.

Vandalism is a terrible thing in society for sure but most of the time better than Arson. I am surprised nobody has lit the new park up with the amount of frustration it has caused by being rammed down the throats of the people. The local population has been treated very unfairly to say the least.
