In the ‘old days’ of the development of reloading, there were many brands of tooling with proprietary connection specs, but Huntington’s (RCBS) designs have become the ‘universal’ standard that most current brands have adopted.
You do need to be careful when purchasing ‘old’ designs and brands that are no longer in production, and there are still lots of older spec tooling built by Lyman before they switched to ‘universal’ specs.. AFAIK, Lyman continues to produce tooling for their older designs like their pliers type hand tools. There are adapter bushings available to allow old spec dies to be used in ‘universal’ presses, but IMHO this should be avoided.
AFAIK, all Lee tooling is ‘universal’ spec, and all RCBS ‘universal’ shell holders, and 7/8x14tpi (threads per inch) dies are usable in all Lee presses. Large series dies are mainly 1 ¼ x12tpi but some are larger. Better current presses (like the Lee Classic Cast & RCBS Rock Chucker series) often use a bushing that allows use of both 7/8x14 & 1 ¼ x12 dies.
’Universal’ dies from RCBS and most others, are usable with most ‘universal’ shell holders, in most ‘universal’ presses.
Good Luck, YMMV.
