Actually, Quebec and Alberta have very similar GDP's. Quebec is in fact slightly wealthier, although they have twice the population. Nevertheless, your 100x estimate is way off.

I should have said 100 percent because twice the number of people to generate the same amount cash is 2 to one which is 100 percent GDP per person. And yes 100x is way off.

It's "slime", not "slim".
It's "want to argue".
It's "no", not "know".
It's "Albertans" not "Albertians".
And these (....,,,,,,) are periods and commas. Please use them as I cannot understand any points you are trying to make.
Thank you.

I honestly don't. Take this post of yours for example; are you trying to be funny, sarcastic, or insulting?
You're fairly new here, (I'm guessing to the forum and the province), so I'm trying to figure you out.

Huh. You guys finally have an election that makes the national news, and it's nothing but bellyaching.

Oil isn't going to go down the tubes. Energy stocks are down this morning, but that's what happens when the democratic process goes the way the business class didn't want it to. With all the doomspeak in the leadup to the vote, of *course* there was going to be a dip in the market. That's how self-fulfilling prophecies go.

The fact that the left can't eat an alfalfa sandwich on spelt bread without the right sh***ing its collective self tends to create this kind of atmosphere. This is a blip. Even if it's a blip that lasts a year, it'll still even out. Nobody's going to leave oil in the ground long-term over a royalty hike.

I just spent a week in Calgary and the surrounding areas. Your infrastructure is falling apart. Want a PST? Likely not. But neither do you want Quebec's roads-- trust me on this one. You really don't.

A year long drop in the markets, is not a blip. It's plenty long enough for investors to make severe cuts and layoffs. Tell the people that lose their jobs how this is a good thing for Alberta.

Now could you name one province that became a "have" province under the NDP? It's a lot easier to name NDP ruled provinces that became "have not" provinces.

As for Quebec, the less that we have in common with those losers, the better.

Interesting...
I considered myself a fairly new member due to my lack of involvement, as indicated by my low post count. Guess I'm a senior member!

So, by your standards, would the kids in the NDP party be considered 'middle-aged' ?

Doesn't Quebec have a PST?

I know more than a couple geologists that make recommendations which fields to go after oil in. Smart people will ALWAYS leave oil in the ground if they can't make a profit that satisfies their shareholders. I'll see if I can find Ed Stelmach and ask him next time I'm out by his farm.

If the NDP increase the royalties on an oil company, what is the first thing they will cut to maintain their profit margin?

Do any other parts of the world have oil?

Is there an abundance of oil in the world?

The amusment I get out of socialists telling businesses how they should earn money is endless.

Good to have you back btw. Hope all is well.

Who the hell would eat an alfalfa sandwich?

I have come to the conclusion that many people here are crazy/overreacting. It reminds me of those doomsday prepper nuts who have a whole underground bunker ready for god knows what.

People around Canada congratulating us for finally getting the corrupt dinosaurs out of power and the only thing I read on here is basically the economy is gonna implode from within. This forum is literally some bizzaro world.

Yes they do, I believe its 9.975%, not only that but they have the highest personal tax rates in Canada!

I was raised in Quebec and escaped in 1987, never to return to that stupid Province. When René Lévesque and his party his Parti Québécois got into power all the major corporations went a running to Ontario, so did the majority of their talented people. It's been a downhill slide ever since.

My prediction is that the NDP will do to Alberta, what the Parti Québécois did to Quebec.

The best decision I ever made in my life was to leave that Province, besides there are no elk or mule deer in Quebec! No elk no mule deer, no me!

Yes, business professionals that make their living investing in industry are overreacting, people that have lived through NDP governments and moved to Alberta to get away from them are overreacting.

It's like you just watched 20 people in a firing line get shot and fall to the ground dead, you're next and think everything is going to be fine.

MAYBE, this NDP government is going to be different from all the other ones. Maybe a trade union lawyer that believes in global warming is going to make rational decisions. Maybe they took their platform down so they can change it to a more realistic, business friendly platform now that they're elected. Maybe I won 6/49 last night, or maybe there will be a zombie apocalypse and I don't have to worry about any of this. But I ain't quitting my job just yet.

I agree...this forum is like a bizarro world where some people ignore history, and ignore logical conclusions.

Let's see if I can read that sign.

Well, looks like she's got that all figured out.

Here's a great article for everyone to read that aptly describes Ms Motley's predicament.

Though that's not quite the case with royalties. That's OUR oil. How much private interests pay for it should be transparent and e should optimize our value. No one should get sweetheart deals to utilize public resources for private profit. The principles around proper management of the royalty issue are, or should be, exactly the same as those surrounding selling crown land to potato farmer "friends of the party". I'm not saying royalties should be raised, but they should be regularly and publicly reviewed, with a view to getting the most benefit for the province.

Can you imagine these fear filled people trying to negotiate a deal for AB. My god. The oil company would say one word and they'd be cowering and capitulating in a second. Little wet puddle between their legs.
