Default Pike Bite Has Been Hot

Well the pike bite has been hot since new years. No real bruisers as yet but we iced a bunch in the 32"-36" range and another 15 or so 28-29 inchers. The two largest fish to date stretched out at 37" & 37 1/4" and pulled the scale to 12lb-12oz and 13lb-6oz. Got some neat footage too of pike crushing the jig in front of the aquaview. Still trying to top my PB from last winter in the same location, a pig of a fish that though only 40" long had a 22 5/8" girth and pulled the scale to 21lbs-7oz!! I ordered a replica mount of that one a year ago Jan 7th from Advanced Taxidermy but I guess the delay is likely due to Covid. Typically they are about a 10 month turnaround.

It's been a little over a month since fishing pike. So today the wife and I headed to one of our favorite pike haunts. It was a much slower than usual day but we still managed to ice a few. My wife started the day off with the first and her pb to date, a 37.5" 13lb-8oz jigging a 50/50 gold-silver williams whitefish tipped with a 6" strip of pike belly skin on a brand new 42" MH Quantum Pulse baitcast ice combo I bought her. I managed to ice a 35 1/4" 11.0lb an hour later and followed it up with a 5lb-5oz jigging a silver whitefish in 8.5ft of water. We lost two other good ones we watched hammer our jigs on the Aquaview and saw a few other bruisers cruise by. It was a great afternoon in my books!
