Default What! Rainbows in Prairie Creek???

I wasn't sure if I should post this. I think some people may think I'm mistaken. Heck, if someone told me they caught a rainbow in prairie creek (Rocky Mountain House) I would have said they're mistaken and probably caught a brook trout. The fact is, I caught a small rainbow today upstream of Everdell bridge. I couldn't believe it. I've caught tons of browns and lots of brookies over the years, but no rainbow trout. Has anyone ever caught one in this river? Were stockers put in this spring? The fishing guide says browns, brookies, whitefish, and some bull trout.

Have fished Prairie for over 40 years and have never caught a rainbow.

That said, a buddy of mine claims to have caught a small rainbow just upstream of Strachan last year . He would know the difference....so....there may be the odd one around.

BTW how was the fishing?

Fishing was ok. One whitefish, couple of browns. A few short strikes on streamers, and the rainbow.

There was rainbows stocked all over the place in the Rocky area years ago. Remnant
populations existed in the N. Sask near Rocky some years ago. Who knows, maybe some still exist somewhere.
I’ve caught cutthroats up Pr. Cr. and at the confluence of Clear Creek and the Clearwater river years ago suggesting fish do wander.

I once caught a rainbow trout in Vetch creek which the the south fork of Prairie creek. Otherwise I only caught brookies there.

It must be the same kind of situation as with the odd brown being caught in the Edmonton stretch of the North Saskatchewan River. Very rare, but it does happen.

In the last two years, I’ve caught wild rainbows in a small tributary to the N Sask River. Certainly not common, but not unheard of.

Eons ago caught a nice 'bow in the Raven River, so they must migrate or get blown in by a wind storm.
