Default Elk Archery/Rifle Tags

Sorry if this seems like a silly question but I'm not an archery hunter and can't find a clear answer. In an area with an early archery hunt and a later general Bull Elk rifle season is the same tag good for both? Hunting in 356 with a general Bull Elk tag can I hunt with Bow until Sept 16 and then a rifle on Sept 17 with same tag or are they different tags?

Same tag, but you also need an "Archery license" in Alberta to hunt with archery tackle. Just another tax from the government.

Correct it is the same tag for any of the general seasons, draws are the only ones that are different.

1 more question - the book show also shows a cow archery season at the same time which turns to draw with rifle. Is the same tag good for both bull or cow (archery) or is the cow a separate tag and can you hold both at the same time?

Same tag for antlerless archery then it becomes draw only for rifle and you tag is only valid for bull.

Been there before lol bow permit and tag in hand let er fly.... That's why if you look at the tag its not a " general bull elk" tag its a general elk tag! that's where the season dates for specific species come in... Now if you are drawn for antlerless elk in say 356 then you can ONLY hunt that zone for cow elk even with archery for that year as you can not have the general elk tag too! Good luck out there

Your problem is that you are referring to your tag as a "general bull tag". Unless it is a draw tag, it is an "elk" tag, which is restricted by wmu and season. Forget about the bull/cow nonsense, there are no such tag designations in Alberta, and read what it says on the tag, and what it is valid for in each wmu/season.

I was thinking about this the other day. So funny we need a bow permit for "traditional hunting" aka bow and arrow yet for rifle (the majority of hunters) no rifle permit.

IF the purpose of these fees was to go towards conservation would it not make sense to have a rifle permit and no bow permit?

Don't shoot me here, it was just a thought. I'm as cheap as the next guy and wouldn't want to pay any more than I have to lol

Don’t say that to loud !!! Govt may be listening and I would suspect there are more rifle hunters than bow hunters. They may see a cash grab.
