Well that sucks! Same weekend as the AFGA conference in Red Deer.

Have been wanting to do this course for 8 years. Had the date been set back in November I would have attended, but am already committed.

Chitty.

Okay thanks!! Do people trap around Calgary? I'm very interested in all of this. I would like to learn about tracks in the snow and stuff, is this also covered?

You would need a resident trapper's license to trap on private land. Best thing for you is to find someone with a trapline who will show you the ropes in exchange for some help. Then maybe you can become a junior partner. If you live in Calgary, you should attend the Calgary local's next meeting coming up on Thursday. Emily has a thread about that on this forum.
As for what is in the course exactly, maybe someone on here who has taken it can answer that for you. I don't trap!

I have a little over 5 acres west and south of Calgary in the bush. I will look for someone to help out, that would be fun. Can't make the course though as I have surgery scheduled for the 21st unfortunately.

I am very interested however I'm pretty turned off by unbelievably high fee!! why so much?? also, i think even more people would sign up if it were in either Calgary or Lethbridge. I'm in Edmonton, and would far rather drive the extra distance to Lethbridge than motel it in claresholm, and I'm guessing a majority of people would agree?

It's impossible to pick a date and location to please everyone. I would suggest just contacting Trappers Ed in Westlock and making the trip to one of many courses held. If you know of 10 people willing to prepay talk to Jim and see what dates are open then book an instructor.

Right now we are working on a wolf course with Gordy on the 17&18th.

Then we will be holding a trapping course Feb 8,9&10 in the Peace River area

Jason
would be interested in this coarse if it's still a go ahead

If you are an SCTA member, you end up paying $273.00 for the course. We think that is very fair. Stavely is one hour from Calgary city limits and Lethbridge. Claresholm has several decent places to stay, not sure why you would have to drive to Lethbridge. I do not know what the Calgary local plans are for a course, if any. Maybe you can contact Emily on this forum?

Is the trapping license good for other provinces? ie: if I move back to my home town in B.C someday, can I trap there under this license?

The course itself will qualify you for a license in BC but you will still have to buy a license in that province.
