Default Awesome 4 days of fishing

Well we had an awesome time this past weekend fishing for lakers! Hit the highway at 4 am on Friday, and got back to red deer on Monday night. Between the 3 of us we managed to catch 23 fish with mostly all of them in the 70cm range.

Unfortunately we didn't get into any big ones but with that many fish caught we still had an awesome time, best days were Sunday and Monday, with 7 fish each day. We also got my buddy's wife onto her first 2 lakers!

Only bad day we had was Saturday when I had to unfortunately leave the lake to get a hook removed from my finger that a squirmy fish managed to lodge the stinger hook into me while I was removing the main hook. But that didn't end my day, came back to the lake for the afternoon bite and after fishing again for 20 minutes hooked into a small guy!

Enjoy the pics!

Yes it definitely hurt a bit haha, it was just us two guys out in the morning and we were fishing separate shacks to see who was seeing more action. The stinger hook was in the fishes mouth and the main was in the top of his head. I unhooked the stinger and when I grabbed onto the main with the pliers he gave a good shake and I was hooked as well. Was shocked that happened, had to kneel with the fish in between my knees while trying to get the hook out of him! And in the panic of seeing the hook in my hand didn't call for my buddy flint to come help me out. Haha

One more nod for barbless hooks, goes in, pulls out, no fishing time lost.

Looks like you had a great trip as mentioned good to see the young ones learning the ropes.

Ouch... I know the pain. There's a simple trick to pull it out where you wrapped fishing line around the hook, push back and yank! It really does work, even with a barbed hook. Quick google search there some vids on utube.

Minus the hook in the hand it looks like you had a great time on the ice!

Cheers

I was really wishing it was barbless when that happened haha I've heard of that trick to remove it. Hopefully i don't have to try it!

Great report!
Share the lake if you dare...

Seriously though, would you share your depth and method of fishing?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on a great trip. Looked like a real family affair, which is always nice. Pity about that treble getting stuck in someones hand. Ouch.

B ..... those are some BTY Lakers, happy to see you got Photobucket working. Looks like everyone had a fun couple of days, hope that injury doesn't impact lifting any heavy loads back at work.

Made many trips working with C/E and AETE, 4 Wing, never got to go fishin, but enjoyed the CF18's.

I imagine you're already planning a return trip.

Looks like you had a great time, minus the hook in the hand! Those are the dangers of the job, going to have to head north and give that a go!

Cant believe you just didn't grab Flints bite stick from the long overnight fishing trip you 2 had. Bear down and let er tear out. Fishing minutes lost you can never get back!
Cool pics
