Default Kayak Wars

Kayak Wars, http://www.kayakwars.com/, is an online year long competition that takes place around the world(although primarily in North America). It runs all year(Feb to Dec) and is based on the numbers of fish you catch. Each species has a specific size requirement and points associated with it and you can only count so many of each species per month. It is a neat format and there are a lot of good anglers that catch some really cool fish.

Most of you know that I am big on kayak fishing so it should come as no surprise that I have been competing in this event for a couple years now. Last year I made it a personal goal to try and win and 24 species and 1040 fish later I pulled it off beating out the other 739 anglers. For my prize I won this neat inflatable kayak. It is a Hobie i11s stand up paddle board/kayak hybrid that has the new reversible mirage(pedal) drive, vantage chair, 4 piece paddle and all folds up into a wheeled carrying bag.

A very cool prize that I am hoping will work well for a couple flying trips I want to do(Florida, Border City Kayak Tournament in Windsor ON and maybe a remote fly in trip up north).

I also gotta give a shout out to our local dealer Glenmore Sailboats for getting the boat in for me and showing me how it all goes together/back into the bag etc.

Anyways just something neat I figured I would share with you guys.

Big congrats.

I love fishing out of a kayak. Going to try more this year. I have been thinking of going to a Caribbean kayak fishing lodge.

Los Buzos resort down in Panama looks cool for that kind of thing. Seen a couple videos/pictures of guys catching some neat fish like rooster fish down there.

Also some kayak fishing guides in Hawaii, Miami and some other cool places that can put guys on some awesome fish in a kayak.

All on my to do list one of these days lol.

Very cool Rav, congrats. With this starting in Feb, you have to fish hard to make up for the frozen months. If you pull your kayak onto the ice, do the fish count as long as you're sitting in it?

Yeah you have to fish hard during the summer months but we have access to more species then most guys and also have some really good lakes here. We also have longer days too so that makes it a lot easier to go fishing after work or just get a longer day in on the weekend.

There are also a couple spots that a guy can fish early/late season if a guy is crazy enough to fish them like I am lol. Like last year dodging icebergs on the NSR beginning of April (not recommended for obvious reasons lol...).

Thumbs up

Well a big congrats, not a kayak fishing type guy yet but can appreciate your dedication to the sport as in the competition you just won.
That price you won looks neat but will rely on your input as to just how that vessel operates and survives the rigours of kayak fishing as we all know you will put it through its paces.

Congrats Rav. I still remember the Hobie Cats from my Kelowna days. Beating out all those other competitors is great.

Check out canadian kayak anglers forum and kayak fishing alberta facebook page, might be able to find an existing team to join or people to make a new team. We filled our team this year and there is another new Alberta team as well so might be 3 teams in Alberta now versus only 1 a couple years ago!
