Default How It's Made - Remington Rifles

How It's Made - Remington Rifles - Full Documentary

A bit antiquated but still an interesting watch, old school CNC, engraving...

Really good old school video. From a time when people actually were talented machinists and very talentedb but then you have the total other end of inteligance that copy and paste a stupid picture. Real smart

I enjoyed the video. They have obviously got more machinery now, mostly to speed things up. I don't doubt that the quality has gone down since that video was made but of the 8 Remington firearms that we have, one has had a problem. a $5 spring on my 597, part of the bolt hold open. The rifle still shot great. The oldest of those 8 being my 870 which is 3 years old. It hasn't seen a lot of use, maybe 3000 rounds so far. My 597 has seen at least that many and it's a little over a year old.

I really like the old videos like this. I had to laugh at the guy shooting the 700 near the end of the video. He's shooting right but scopes himself over his left eye! At least that's how it looked to me. It's at 23:50 if anyone wants to take a look.

I enjoyed it. Nice to see how stuff was made back then.
Must be completely automated by now, maybe minor fit and finish work?

Remington made some very nice rifles, especially in the custom shop. I often regret not purchasing a 40-x rimfire sporter when I had the chance.

It would be nerve wracking working the chisels on a receiver. I bet the engravers got paid better than others

Great post, more interesting than the ch35 version of "How it's made".

Thanks for the vid. It would be interesting to see how this compares to the production of a modern model 700.

I especially enjoyed the scene near the end, where they were shooting the rifles. There is no hearing protection in sight, unless those guys are wearing those special, tiny, skin coloured foam plugs.

Based on them pumping up the 5mm Rimfire.

No PLC's
Computers less powerful then a typical iPhone.

They showed most of the product line for the day. 1100's, 870's, 700's, 760's, 742's, 788's, 540's, 572's

The skill required to do that engraving work is incredible. It's sad to think how so many of these skills are rapidly becoming a lost art
