Default Cougars and game calls

I have a question, and the likelihood of it even happening is slim but still would like to hear people thought on it. I hunt and call alot of coyotes with great success. My question is I will be calling in a new zone this year with alot of wolves and I heard alot of cougars. So reading up on the regs for cougars it says that calls may be used but only mouth call no electronic calls. When I am calling I use a mix of both mouth and electronic. What if a cougars comes in to my call and I have a tag would I be ok to shoot? Or does just having the electronic call with me not allow that? I know the chances of one even coming in to the call are slim but you never know what could happen.

Talk to F&W is the best way to get your answer

You don’t want to be that guy going “well I asked on the AO forum and they said it’s OK” when explaining to a CO

Don't worry about that, wouldn't take anything said on here with a grain of salt when it comes to what is legal and illegal. will be asking f&w. Would just like to hear people thoughts on it thats all

If you even had an electronic call on you my suspicion is it would be illegal to harvest a cougar, even if you had a tag and the season was open.

If I had an ecaller on my person I would wait until the cat had its mouth on me and I had tooth marks to prove self defence. In all the years I've been calling coyotes I cant say I have ever seen a cat. Bears, wolves, fox, hawks, owls, even a ****ed off doe or two but never seen a cat. I'm sure it has happened more than a few times...them cats are sneaky though.

It makes zero sense why their is a restriction on e-calls for cougar.

EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT WHEN A CAT COMES INTO A CALL THEY LOCK ON ARE HARD TO PERSUADE TO BACK OFF.. MAYBE HARD TO IDENTIFY GENDER OF SAID CAT SO ONE CAN LET IT GO , ESPECIALLY IN A ZONE WHERE THE QUOTA FOR MALES AND FEMALES DETERMINES WHETHER OR NOT THE SEASON IS OPEN .
In answer to the OPs original questions I have had 2 cats come in to my calls that I know of and yes , they were hard to discourage and have leave . One require a rock in the head at less than 40 ft to change her mind .
(Sorry , dang caps lock button ..lol)

You wouldn't usually sit on the e-caller.
The benefit of them is to place it 75-100 yards away, upwind of your position.
If what you say is correct then mouth blown calls should be banned for use on cougar.

I called in a cougar tonight. I’d heard her calling and pulled up cougars Calling on my phone, played it a couple times and she came in to about 20 yards.
