Great news!
My first brittany ran off once while I was quadding out west. It was early afternoon and we searched all day before heading back a few km to camp. We were sitting around the campfire and the sun was almost down when he finally came back, covered in mud and burrs. Looked like he had a great time and then he slept for 2 days!
On another occasion I was grouse hunting with a buddy and my 2 britts. It started to rain lightly and then we noticed one of the dogs was gone. We yelled and searched for a couple hours before heading back to camp, soaking wet. There was Maddie standing in the door of the wall tent, looking at us with a face that said "What took you guys so long?" She'd obviously had enough of the rain and went back to sleep on our cots instead.
Damn bird dogs

Good to hear you got dog back. My young springer and I went for walk along river in Jasper. All of sudden he was gone, searched everywhere, met park rangers let them know dog was lost. I could read their minds when they looked at leash in my hand. After few hours went back to truck.
My Springer was inside truck sitting in passenger seat, with look,'Where the hell have you been'.
Tailgate and sliding window were open by his kennel in back of truck. Just as mentioned before 'Dogs do not get lost"

Phew, happy to hear she's found! I lost my lab in thick brush for an hour once and felt sick to the stomach just from that, multiple days is the stuff of nightmares.

I think dogs have an incredible sense of direction/ landmarks I will be spotting for birds 40 km from home and my chessie will start getting excited when we go by a field we hunted the week before.

After a few close calls way back loosing springers, I always hunt / train with an e-collar.
It helps keep them off deer, roads, fences and other hazards should they decide to tune out the whistle.

My female springer was following me in 3 different directions from cabin on trapline for almost 10km. She decieded to go back to cabin. She just took a cutline she had never been on before and had never been in this area of trapline. The cutline was a direct line to the cabin, I was totally impressed by their homing instincts!
