Default Ring hight for a scope?

Just went to throw a new scope on one of my guns and I don't have enough adjustment up to sight it in so I'm thinking I need higher rings. Other than that it fits fine though and I don't want to go higher unless I have to.

There are many reasons for your scope to run out of adjustment, but the one you listed I highly doubt was the cause or will fix it. That being said, possibly you could have reversed the bases accidentally. If that is not the case, you could try a different set of rings and bases, I prefer talleys and I'm sure many on here would recommend them as well. You could also try a set of Burris signature rings that come with incerts that will adjust it as well.

Ring height doesn't effect range of scope adjustment.

You've got a base height or mismatched bases sort of issue.

thanks for the tips ill try switching the basses around and see if that helps. normally i would just have the store mount and bore sight the scope but figured id just do it myself and look down the barrel to get it close at 25 M. ill see how switching them goes if not that ill go looking for a new set of rings.

It's all about the bass....
Dont tell anyone. But
I put a scope on once and every shot and adjustment was worse.
Rotated my scope 90 degree so the elevation was at 12 oclock and worked spendudly .

Glad I am not the only one who has done this in their career ........

I would also check that you have the correct bases and rings for your rifle model. Once in a while there are subtle differences that can cause grief. Case in point I had a Weatherby Ultralight in 280. The Talleys I mounted by mistake were for the 9 lug (magnum) version. I simply could not get the 280 on paper.

What type of rifle? Was a scope previously mounted on this rifle, and if so, are you using the same base and rings?
