Default Starting off in to high a gear. Grizz 700

My quad is gutless from a standstill. Starting in a higher gear so to speak. Clutch? Belt? Anyone ever have that problem with grizzlies or kodiaks? Just wondering what to expect before going in.

yeah something is up for sure, my 660 would stand on end and pull like crazy, I would be looking to see if the clutches are hanging.

Pull the cover off. 5 min. Tell real quick if belt or clutch.
Anytime there is slippage in the drivetrain, it's typically belt. If the clutch isn't shifting correctly due to build up of crud , a good cleaning is in order.
Belt change over is like 1.18” wide if memory serves me

Are you running oversized tires? If so and you don't have a clutch kit or aftermarket clutch weighted for the tire size, that'll kill power too.

The Yamaha Grizzly is not "really" a multiple gear transmission. It is a CVT set up, so no shifting gears to speak of. Just the Clutches adjusting to the torque.

Are you smelling a burning rubber smell when you are reving to get going? Then its the belt.

More likely its the clutches.

The Yamaha Clutches use a direct drive system so there is actually engine braking. The belt is always in tension unlike a snowmobile clutch.

This is a bit of an expensive fix if the clutches have to be done, but I have been there, and I had the same experience as you.
