Freedom is not free. Never has been and never will be. This is the last submission in my Great Uncles log book after he was killed in "Operation Brunswick" flying for the 97th bomber squadron. 24 years old with an entire life ahead of him. I have often wondered just how many times he even saw an airplane before he went to war let alone having to fly in a Lancaster and doing bombing missions and night raids to help keep the Germans at bay. Unfathomable....

Thanks for sharing. Those bomber boys were up against staggering odds but they strapped on their boots after sundown and rained hell on the enemy. Without the work of bomber command the war might have followed a different course.
One of my wife’s uncles was a Halifax pilot that survived and was decorated by the Queen. His executor donated his flight logs to a museum.

I order to have freedom you must kill,so others may live.....such a sacrifice to make but must be done....we never forget.....everyday....
I had relatives on both sides of the fence.....uncles....once all together with my father who served 33 years in Germany they all have stories....but all enjoy each other's company just had a job to do for a country they love...

My father was with 424 squadron flying Halifax and I have his logbook. I have read it but there is a lot more to it than I can understand. The basic facts are there for anyone to read, but there is a lot that wasn't said. Some things that some one who had been there would understand but I will never know.
Today I am not going to a service but I will do a lot of thinking.
Thank you for the kind words. Yesterday was spent thinking of a man I never knew that made the greatest sacrifice of all. God bless all the veterans and casualties...
